Agreed. I'd take the badges off and paint them a contrasting color. They need to stand out more

They need to ditch the bowtie on the SS models and stick the SS dead center on the grill.

I think the scoop up front is nice, but other then that its very lacking in the visual department. I don't see much difference between the V6 model.

Thats a great idea :)

I agree, the car in the pics looks identical to the base model, minus the little emblem. An SS should stand out more.

Only cause you have seen the RS pictures that have the same 20 inch wheels as the SS does.

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f13/finally-gm-releases-official-camaro-ss-image-68732/

I talk about it there in the first post.

Regular V6's will get 18 inch steelies, or 18/19 alloys with no spoiler.

I think I may be the only one but I'm still unimpressed with all the retro styles. They're all bland. The challenger is a mega-dud...after seeing it up close I don't think I'd give it a second glance on the street. Too subtle. The mustang is "meh" at best unless you spend $60k on a shelby. And now the Camaro is following suit.

I loved the concept Camaro but GM did what I figured they would and tamed it up for production. I knew they'd have to a little, but I think it still needs something. They used the basic shape and a few cues from the concept and then smoothed out all the lines too much. My prediction is the novelty will wear off and the new style's going to go cold quick and sales are going to bite after the first few years.

Why retro though? I still don't get it. If we did all this already, why take a step back? I think the 4th gen's were 10,000x more aggressive looking than the new one. It's not terrible, but it'll never be as badass as a 69 SS. Maybe it's just me?:-?

I could not disagree with you more.

While I agree with you onthe Challenger and Mustang, as both are very slab sided and no not have a lot of body lines or agressiveness to them outside of thier faces, the Camaro has all that and more!

Secondly, dulled down from the production model? Are you looking at the same car? Yeah, it sure isnt 50 inches high, or come with 22 inch wheels...but **** man it looks EXACTLY liek the concept! All of the body lines are there, the fender flares, the lower door crease, the hips, wide mouth grill and wide stance...ITS THE DAMN SAME!

4th gens were agressive? Geeze! They were the softest looking cars on the road! 4.1's look like stretched Geo Storms and the 4.2's look like Chrysler products! Even with that goofy SS hood, sure as hell didnt make it any more agressive! It looked fat, bloaded, a big 300+hp Jelly Bean!! A HUGE depature from Camaro's past of long nose, short deck design.

No disrespect Al, but are YOU looking at the same car?! To me it's all of the MANY subtle differences that add up and subtract from the car's overall look. Let's go through the list, and this is just from the angles we can see in these 2 pics...the rear is, from what I remember a whole different bag of crap next to the concept...

-Height = HUUUUGE DIFFERENCE, it was expected to an extent but still...
-fender flares are WAY less pronounced on the production model
-every single body line on the concept was either dulled down or deleted for production
-the front grill is larger, goofier, and much less aggressive than the concept
-no wicked halo headlights :|
-no ventilated brake ducts like the lower front lip of the concept :-?
-wheels are like HALF the size of the concept...fine on a V6, but the SS is top shelf, it should have really sick wheels
-overall length of the car is shorter than the concept :-x
-flare on the bottom of the body before the rear wheel is dulled down
-NO roof crease what-so-ever, which was stupid. They did after all raise the height of it, so why not keep the crease? It looked badass. :banghead:
-top of the front bumper is much more rounded off and less aggressive than the sharper, more blunt one of the concept
-side view mirrors are bigger than the concept...but we won't even count that because the concept's mirrors are small as hell.

So even if I forget that one thing, it's a different car. Like I said, they took the overall design and tamed it up for public consumption. It's like a bloated version of the concept. YES, it's "basically" the sameonly not.

If you hand me the keys to the concept, it'd stay in my garage FOREVER. Hand me the keys to the production model and I'd sell it in a week to get a 4th gen.

And I don't know how anyone could say the 98-02 4th gen's weren't some of the baddest ass looking cars on the planet.

As for the Chrysler thing, you say tomato I say tomotto. The Chrysler concorde with similar headlights came out the same year as the revised 4th gen camaro, so is it the camaro that looks like the Chrysler, or vice versa.

Say what you will but if you see an 98-02 SS or WS6 in your rear view, you tend to pee a little. With this new camaro...I don't even think it'd raise the hairs on the back of my neck. It's a DUD.

And like I said, this is just my opinion...only sales numbers will tell for sure. Wait until the initial excitement dies down and then we'll see where Camaro's future is in a few years...

-Height = HUUUUGE DIFFERENCE, it was expected to an extent but still...

Hight is still low, lower then the Mustang IIRC

-fender flares are WAY less pronounced on the production model

Looks great from this angle. Maybe its the paint color..

-every single body line on the concept was either dulled down or deleted for production

Like what body line?

-the front grill is larger, goofier, and much less aggressive than the concept

Looks the same. Maybe the grill is not as pronounced, but it sure is taller to allow more air to enter.

-no wicked halo headlights :|

Uh...yes there are. Halo headlights are part of teh RS package, which is available on the LT and SS Camaro models. The SS you see above is NOT equiped with the RS package. RS package also darkens the rear tail lights, darker shade onthe wheels, as well as turns the SS badge to red.

-no ventilated brake ducts like the lower front lip of the concept :-?

Concept fun stuff, but larger lower grill area to allow for brake cooling.

-wheels are like HALF the size of the concept...fine on a V6, but the SS is top shelf, it should have really sick wheels

Um...20's are not half of 21/22. that would be one to two inches smaller.

-overall length of the car is shorter than the concept :-x

Its actually longer. By a few inches.

-flare on the bottom of the body before the rear wheel is dulled down

Ok, another small reduction for production, but it still very pronounced.

-NO roof crease what-so-ever, which was stupid. They did after all raise the height of it, so why not keep the crease? It looked badass. :banghead:

The Mohawk is still there. Most pics taken so far are with the optional sun roof.

-top of the front bumper is much more rounded off and less aggressive than the sharper, more blunt one of the concept

Changes for production, but very minimal.

-side view mirrors are bigger than the concept...but we won't even count that because the concept's mirrors are small as hell.

Duh

So even if I forget that one thing, it's a different car. Like I said, they took the overall design and tamed it up for public consumption. It's like a bloated version of the concept. YES, it's "basically" the sameonly not.

Tamed it up? Jesus...says the guy that gets excited about a 98-02 Camaro.
If an LS1 Camaro can visually get your blood pumping, maybe you need to take some sort of heart medication

If you hand me the keys to the concept, it'd stay in my garage FOREVER. Hand me the keys to the production model and I'd sell it in a week to get a 4th gen.

Well, I guess thats whats different about you and me. I would never ever buy a 4th gen. Ever. If I did, it was to grab the engine and trans.
To me, the 4th gen is the most bloated, boring looking car every to wear the Camaro name.

And I don't know how anyone could say the 98-02 4th gen's weren't some of the baddest ass looking cars on the planet.

Now you know someone.

As for the Chrysler thing, you say tomato I say tomotto. The Chrysler concorde with similar headlights came out the same year as the revised 4th gen camaro, so is it the camaro that looks like the Chrysler, or vice versa.

Guess that makes you feel better. Still looks boring. Nice, but boring.

Say what you will but if you see an 98-02 SS or WS6 in your rear view, you tend to pee a little. With this new camaro...I don't even think it'd raise the hairs on the back of my neck. It's a DUD.

It raised the hair's on theback of my neck Jan 6th 2006 at Cobo Hall, and It will surely raise the hair all over my body come Sept 19th.

And like I said, this is just my opinion...only sales numbers will tell for sure. Wait until the initial excitement dies down and then we'll see where Camaro's future is in a few years...

That we will, but right now the 5th gen has a lot mroe going for it right now then the 4th gen ever hoped it could have.

meh, its still really hasnt grabbed my attention. i need to see it in person and sit down in it and drive it. i dont get the retro hype. yeah i would use SOME elements like the dash cluster and make it more retro-modern which is fine...but they made it WAY too retro, and almost every other "retro" car anyone tried failed (SSR, thunderbird, prowler, mustangs are still slow, etc.)

hopefully it is a cool car, i still HATE the hood....why does it not go down to the grille? it looks very small and awkward, and the giant bowtie needs to go, along with that goofy grille and headlights....it looks ok otherwise, but still hasnt grabbed my attention, it needs...something...and if the door windows have frames over them **** that im out!

So far that seems to be the general opinion...the only one nutting themselves over the new Camaro is Al. You can say what you like man, but I, like many others, still don't see it. It's not the concept and never will be.

Visually, the SS does not seem to stand out over the RS. I didn't even notice the hood scoop until someone else mentioned it above. How about the rear? Is there just going to be an SS logo in place of the RS?

The "captured" hood is a styling element that is starting to catch on a lot. First and 2nd gens have it. Malibu has it, as well as new G35 and G37 sedan.coupe. I think it gives the nose a cleaner look.

Well, only one on this site. All the people rubbing themselves on the failed 4th gen dont seem to like it for what ever reason.
Check out a few other sites, not to mention the overall outpouring of fans about the car that made ita clear choice for GM to make it.

You, sir, are in the minority.

Challenger nor the Mustang's hood scoops are functional. Why get upset about it.

What visually seperates a V6 from a Z28 from an SS Camaro 4th gen?
V6 to Z28, a badge
Z28 to SS, a hood, spoiler and wheels. OH yeah...and a badge.

4th gens did not appeal to most women. The sales numbers I saw a while back were so far skewed towards males it was nuts. Too low, hard to see out of, giant doors, blah blah blah. All turned the average woman off. They bought mustangs. Still the secretary car that occasionally gets a big engine. Yes, I know there are ladies here. But see out outnumbered they are? Our wonderful ladies are thankfully not average!

Now they are scared the base is too fast (300HP RWD is not a Corolla) and will turn off women. Really.

ShadowHawk

And 1/4 mile times. 400hp in a GTO = low 13's at best, in a 4th gen, probably 12.5 if you're a retard.

They're heavy, hideous and slow. They almost keep up with the 98-02 F cars only because they pack more HP, at least in the LS2 versions, and even then they really don't put up too good of a fight. Even a "meh" F-body driver could dust a 350hp GTO no problem. GTO's are a waste in every sense of the word. There are probably about 5 people on the planet who give a rats ass about the Monero Goats and the rest think it's a turd.

The Holden's were MUCH nicer! I'd take one over a GTO hands down. GM fumbled big time there. They should have gone with a design similar to the 99 concept car. THAT was a GTO!

And I dont' mind comfort, but not at the expense of hundreds of extra pounds. The damn seats weigh almost as much as the driver!

As you can see, the black and red ones are SS/RS's with the halo lights, darker wheels, and the red SS symbols.

I'm with Al on the styling of the new car... well proportioned, modern, aggresive. I like the design because, similar to BMW, the car looks like a progression of the 1st gen design w/o completely mimicking it *cough* challenger *cough*

I'm not with Al on the styling of the 4th gen - while not a huge fan of the early years - I think the refresh on the front end post-98 still holds up, especially w/ the ss hood.
