I finally got power back and headed to the house this evening with my wife. No internet but I'm able to tether with my phone. I had a stack of mail for being away for over 5 days and noticed the new GMHTP came in. I flipped through it briefly and found an interesting article about GT500 killers. Basically combos that can top the power output of the new snake. They used a couple pics from my photoshoot with GMHTP last summer. I thought it was a nice little surprise. Bottom left and bottom right pic (engine bay).

Not an LS1 fbody to be found on that page. None of that seems legit.

Only when towing a ZL1.

Not only that but an L98, really? Who is this imposter and what have they done with GMHTP...

Yup. My car was featured in the January 2012 issue of GMHTP.

Considering the weight and performance of the GT500, you would only need 550hp in a typical 3rd or 4th gen to run with one from the tests I have seen. 5th geners have the extra 500lbs or more to make up - sorry about that...

If you consider the weight, hp and tq advantages of the GT500 to the ZL1, its really not that impressive, IMO. And I much rather do what the three car owners in the article did, buy a nice vehicle and make it faster for much less. Don't get me wrong if I had money burning a hole in my pocket I would take a ZL1!

I like both cars, but I agree with you 100%

Yea I'm sorry but neither cars really impress me as far as straight line acceleration goes. Saw an A6 ZL1 at Etown a few months back struggling to run mid 12s. A kid I work with has a 2011 GT500 and it only ran a 12.7. For $60k I would hope my car could run better times then a bolt on LT1 can...

Evolution did a bolt on GT500 with a pulley swap and went 9.61 rowing gears... it was the best sounding car I've ever heard in person.

The magic of the ZL1 isn't that it's a quarter mile monster btw....

Is it about the quarter million needed to buy it and have it sit in a garage? Does it glitter in the dark and grant you wishes too?

No one said it was made as a 1/4 mile monster, I was just saying that because of the 1/4 chat above, thanks

Hell, once I put the NAWZ on my SRT4 I'll be blowing GT500s away! As long as I don't blow the welds off my intake manifold...

Lol, I live at the drag strip "when" my car is running, so normally thats what I care about. GM made it clear in all the articles printed about the ZL1 that their main focus was not the drag strip.
