He was easily doing 50 or more. No lights on, and he didn't seem to be in a rush to get anywhere. He was just speeding. now, if someone came along down the road at 45 MPH, he would've whipped the cruiser around and pulled them over....

That's a good point. How can you respect somebody if they don't play by the same rules? I always wanted to video tape the frequent (and it is a majority of them) speeding cops next to their own "your speed is" equipment they setup on the side of the road. I wonder how many cops I could get in trouble for it, lol. I bet if I did that the cops would be waiting for me to pull out of my driveway!

i have reported bad driving cops from my cell phone more than once. if they are our supposed "role model" driver, then how do they get away with the **** they do - and why should they? isolated incidents probably won't raise any eyebrows, but if enough people complain about those cops who abuse the law then something will be done about it. unfortunately, getting people to stick together about anything is pie-in-the-sky-thinking, much less reporting bad driving cops. so, i will just continue to do what i do and if others join in, then fine. if not, at least i know i am doing something to change what i don't like.

since cell phones are still somewhat anonymous, i don't worry about cops out for vengeance.

If it were me, I'd change the speed limits to be a little more flexible. Dynamic speed limits that state clearly 65mph dry and clear 45mph bad weather. I know that would just make a mess of the court system with traffic cases about the weather being dry and clear or bad... but for crying out loud I can't see how under 2 extream conditions there is 1 speed limit. Then there's the whole vehicle technology card I could play. Cars are built to go faster but also to stop faster. The average car's 60-0 distance has dropped dramatically so if it were me, the speed limits would go up. We should adopt a law that prohibits bad driving habits like tailgating or just start cracking down on THAT and less of the speeding violations. That's my ideal world, a utopia for the streets of NJ. But alas, this state is doomed so I'll probably end up moving somewhere that isn't full of bad drivers jacking up my insurance.

The car's 60-0 distance has dropped, but I think it's more about the ability of a person's reaction time to be able to stop, given a certain speed.

1 mile = 5280 feet
If travelling 60 mph = 88 ft/sec
If travelling 70 mph = 102.666 ft/sec
If travelling 80 mph = 117.333 ft/sec

I don't know what average reaction times are for stopping... but just using the 70 mph speed (which is approx 100 ft/sec, to keep the math simple), If your reaction time is 1/2 a second, you've already traveled 50 feet. 50 feet is pretty damn far, in terms of braking distances, imo.

Just some food for thought.

Yes, I have lol... got pulled over doing about 110...

Cop: "Are you aware of the speed limit?"
Me: "Yes sir... 65 Conditions Permitting."
Cop: "Are you aware of how fast you were going?"
Me: "Yes sir... 110 or so."
Cop: (more sternly) "Are you aware that you were speeding???!!!"
Me: (with a hint of chuckle) "Well, it's a clear and sunny day, I thought the conditions would permit me to go that fast."
(long pause... Cop glances at my windshield)
Cop: "What's the PBA shield for?"
Me: "My father's a corrections offcer."
(long pause)
Cop: "Did your daddy tell you to say that?"
Me: (laughing) "No, I'm just a smart ass."
(long pause)
Cop: "Slow down and get the **** outta here."
Me: "Thanks!"
