Man, that block was rotting from the inside out. Looks like somebody didn't use the good antifreeze or the engine sat around with no antifreeze for a while and the rust started.

all teh rust is fresh. it is jsut surface rust, looks worse in teh pics than in person. i have to get anbother pic of it now that the two big chunks being held on by the oil pan have ben removed.
there is also now a clear view of teh #2 connecting rod, sctraches in the crank, a big dent in the bottom of teh oil pan, and debris in the oil pan(like teh rest of teh #2 connteing rod) what can i say, i do good work. lol later tim |

Seems like an NJSpeeder weight saving trick gone bad.
Delete 1/2 of block material, 1 piston + connecting = 30 less pounds, then try to sleak into the V6 class! :P |

well, the new motor is almost installed. fought with the trans bell housing for a while. didn't seem like it wanted to ever line up then it popped into place where it belonged.
big thanks to Tru2Chevy and PamperedZ for helping out. the extra hands definately made thigns easier tonight. it will definately be fired tomorrow after work. justin is plannign to have his video camera here, so we will get some audio of teh open headers up :grampsch: later tim |
