I would laugh so hard if on a dyno it only made like 400 hp and 450 tq.

I would probably die laughing.

Forgive me for not knowing, but are you using a 572?

Ian 11-01-2005 12:27 PM

turbo 572, huh? have fun fitting that in a 3rd or 4th gen

GM fit a larger engine into a 4th gen....remember the ZL1?

the plan is to use an STS rear mount turbo setup to allow more room in the engine bay. The 572 will be fuel injected. Originally, I had planned on using Scoggin-Dickey's EFI setup, since it was the only one I'd seen. It has a top-mounted throttle body in place of a carb:
http://www.sdpc2000.com/images/produ...87_6323012.jpg

However, I just picked up the latest issue of "Camaro Performers", and saw the '69 Chip Foose/Unique Performance Camaro. It has a 572 with a Hogan's EFI intake, which has the throttle body mounted as it would be in a modern car:

I'm going to go with this setup for better hood clearance, and a more "modern" look.

and as i said, if the calculations are right, it should be putting out over 1000 HP and 1000 lb./ft. of torque at the crank.

you're entitled to your opinion. i'll let you ride in the car when it's finished

Ian 11-01-2005 11:48 PM

you'd make more power easier with the top loader induction setup

and how was the ZL-1 bigger? they should be the same size.

If you really wanted to make 1000 HP, it'd be easier to have a big inch gen 1 small block with a procharger. you'd save some weight and the intake plumbing would be a lot simpler. Just my opinion though :)

maybe so, but i'd rather go for the uniqueness factor. not everyday you see a huge big-block stuffed into a 4th gen. or a turbo'd big block, for that matter.

the reason i choose the Hogan intake is for hood clearance. the top-mount setup will cause problems unless i have a cowl hood, which i don't want.

the 2000 ZL1 was "advertised" as having a 572ci engine. However, it was later revealed that the engine was larger than that, at the very least 582ci but probably more. This was brought to light at Car and Driver's shootout between the ZL1 and Ford's Boss Mustang, built specifically to take on the ZL1.

So? Both a 572 and a 582 BBC is the exact same external size as the 454 in Matt's pickup. CI have nothing to do with fitting an engine in a car.

And good luck fitting a big block under the stock hood on any 4th gen. Can't say I've seen anyone pull that off yet....

maybe if it has a dry sump oil system. then you could lower the engine at least another 3 inches. I dont think it would fit under the stock hood anyway you slice it.

Koll 11-06-2005 08:18 AM

You dont see turbo big blocks for a reason, its an abomination!

BTW, if you are gonna turbo it, do it right, none of this rear mount ****.

Ian 11-06-2005 05:11 PM

why not a quad turbo big block in a fourth gen 8)

actually a buddy of mine has a bbc with a single turbo in a 79 mustang..last i heard it ran an 8.87...he drove it to the track ran 3 runs and drove it home..(clifton to etown)

i agree with the rear mount thing.

Savage_Messiah 11-06-2005 10:17 PM

Ian how did you get pics of my super duper top-secret mod?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

Ian 11-06-2005 10:50 PM

Kasey, I doubt you have enough money to buy even one of those heads! You'd have to sell your house to buy an engine setup like that

NJSPEEDER 11-06-2005 11:07 PM

that quad turbo was mike moran's piece wasn't it? i think that is the car that the nmca said cool idea but NO!!! to before he ever got a chance to run it.

that tosto racing car has one thing "pro shifted", which means it was rollerized so you don't have to use teh clutch between gears, just rip the shifter.
square cut gears and an iron clutch. super efficient, light, and great for 1 pass an hour.(it needs time to cool off and unweld itself from the flywheel) :) makes a funky and very distinct smell too.
my friend, D144John, used to have a turbo small block in a 64 nova with a clutch-glide trans that used that type of clutch. it is some crazy **** to drive around.

later
tim

Ian 11-06-2005 11:11 PM

yes, that is the mike moran car that wasnt allowed to race

THIS IS THE BIGGEST PIPE DREAM EVER

tis trew.

i bet there will no 4th gen, no 572, no fuel injection, and no turbo. no crazy built t-56 either.

didn't you have a V6 camaro that got sold ?

no offense, but this is entertaining, i'll be genuinely shocked if this ever happens.

As you were....

Ryan

Ian 11-07-2005 09:55 PM

Its not a pipe dream, it IS possible, but its a bad decision on pats part. if he was smart, he'd hold off the big motor'ed fourth gen project until after a few years in the work force.

BUT, to each his own. if he wants to build it, I'll be the first one to offer a helping hand. its his dream, not mine afterall :)

yes, i did have a V6 that got sold. that's what got me into this mess into the first place :D

as for the project, you'll see when it's finished
