also, the fine in new jersey for failure to maintain your vehicle is $175, and i have never in my life heard of anyone getting it for ditching their cat.
the $10k fine everyoen always talks about is a federal highway fine for illegally disposal or handling of hazardous materials, which if they see teh trash bag of cat guts you can get nailed with, otherwise it is just a failure to properly maintain.

Well, a high flow cat won't cost you more than 3-5 hp so if you picked up that much then you had some serious previous tuning and maintenance issues that started killing that cat way too soon. I've got some articles showing that dual cats only slowed an 11 second car down .1 in the 1/4 mile. When they compared cats vs mufflers, the mufflers slowed it down by .4 compared to the cats .1 so cats are not restrictive like all you guys like to think they are. Now if you have a lousy factory cat(like the 1990 454SS pickup) then replacing it with a better flowing cat is a no brainer. Now if you leaned your car out too much with tuning then you probably damaged the cat from excessively high exhaust temps.

I have a friend who is an EMT in my town, he knows some of the cops who have deleted their cats (mustangs), gonna have him get their word on it

Savage_Messiah 11-15-2005 06:23 PM

actually he said "most cops most cops don't know what a cat is, and if they do, they prob work on their owns cars s o won't give a ****" and that they wouldn't check for one anyway... maybe it's just my town i dunno

slasherbarb 11-15-2005 07:35 PM

i dont have a huge selection of tools...but definately enough to install a cat/bullet muffler...but if ur talking about a cutter and that stuff...that i dont have...plus working by my house isnt really to possible...dont really have a whole lot of room by me...plus if i had an air compressor, things could go a lot easier...i think we should work by kaseys...plus brandon i can drive around in ur car for a bit to see what is really wrong with it...

Brando56894 11-15-2005 07:39 PM

aight thats fine, as long as it doesnt blow up by then  i was drivin kasey around to show him what it was doin and when we got finished it was really bad.... he followed my to lot 6 (we were parked in lot 2) and it was shuddering like crazy and i was only doin 30 :( i hope its not something really bad..... if it is that really sucks, but atleast i have the money for it.

slasherbarb 11-15-2005 08:06 PM

yeah...now does anyone have a harmonic balancer puller so i can pull my harmonic balancer off...plus, kasey, u good at belts...i might change my belt around and could definately use help with it...

Savage_Messiah 11-15-2005 08:34 PM

I can give it a shot as long as it's not me, tim and justin in teh dark in tim's driveway... we were teh sux0rs at belts that night

working at my house is cool but ive also got no sawzall

Brando56894 11-15-2005 09:03 PM

so how are we supposed to get my cat off?

slasherbarb 11-15-2005 09:58 PM

i might be able to get a sawzall...ill ask my friend dave if i can borrow his...but the belt shouldnt be too hard to do...just running it will be a bitch since lt1=no room...and dont start with the v6=greater than all crap...

12secondv6 11-15-2005 10:01 PM

Why not dyno before mod... then after... and ONLY tune to delete O2 codes and see what the gains are?

I just can't see that my car would benifit from no cat (bullet muffler) from a high flow cat.

My car would be ongodly loud/ ricerish

Brando56894 11-15-2005 10:30 PM

thats what im planning on doing james, well about that, i was plannin on running it w/stock exhaust, then with a magnaflow, then with my car tuned for it. and thanks for tryin john, i could possibly borrow one of kaseys cats (u said u have 2 right?) cuz i wanted to see how much all that made a difference...

Savage_Messiah 11-15-2005 10:33 PM

I have my car tuned for the bullet muffler and aisde from it being quicker (I have no before/after dynos or times from that mod only, sorry), I get better gas milage with the bullet on than the cat

Savage_Messiah 11-15-2005 10:34 PM

I have 2 stock LS1 cats at my house, just need to get one off of the y-pipe and... adapt it to your car

or... buy that bullet now and get it shipped my my house

Brando56894 11-16-2005 05:19 PM

im gonna order it tonight hopefully it'll get there in time...

I just can't see that my car would benefit from removing the windshield wipers.
