pricing them along the lines of the mustang would only be good marketing strategy on the part of GM. of course, no one (not even me) is claiming that GM has any common sense when it comes to marketing. why pull the plug on the camaro/firebird to begin with? to give the marquee a rest for a coupla years? yeah, that really goes over well ala the impala and bonneville...

They killed the Camaro/Firebird because of a shrinking market that was buying trucks, and not sports cars, and deffinatly not low slung, low visiblity, high hp, high insurance rated, sports cars.
Perhaps if GM invested in a Crystal Ball company they would have had known that the market would still be ripe for teh picking, but the cash thoes SUV's pulled in blinded them.
Remind yourself that a lot of the players of the Pro-SUV squad are now gone or no longer in control.

...like it was??

and also it's nto just the trucks that killed the market, I have to admit the LS1 Camaro front end ain't the hottest

well style yes, but the 4th gen went underfunded and had only a mild face lift in its 10 years.
Also, the 4th gens ergonomics suck, especialy for a little teeny girl that wants a sports car, something the Mustang excells in.

now, that i'll buy... the suv market is still out there. they are just a little smaller and they resemble the station wagons of old... :kneeslap:

Savage_Messiah 11-24-2005 09:26 PM

the ergonomics work for me

This 5th gen better kick ass and wipe the floor from everything else... I hear that there's a Skyline coming this way soon, that would be a nice target for GM for starters

BigAls87Z28 11-25-2005 01:26 AM

Skyline would most likely cost way above a Camaro. A loaded 350Z is over 30k, so I can imagine that one of Skyline nature, if its a Nissan (could be an Infinity) I expect it to be priced near the Vette.

Savage_Messiah 11-25-2005 04:00 AM

so how much ass would it kick if the camaro could kick its ass with a lwoer price tag??

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?

being a huge fan of the Skyline series, im pissed they are dropping both the Nissan and Skyline names from it... from what i hear, it is definately coming under the Infinity name, and will more than likely be called the "GTR"...and it basically looks like a 350Z on roids, and it is gonna be somewhere between 50-75 grand...better off getting a Vette...give me a 1999 Skyline GTR34 any day

i was watching dream car garage lastnight on the speed channel and they had 4 old muscle cars on there( 69 Z28, Boss 302, javelin, and a charger) and were beating the crap outta them it was great. the best was that the 69 z28 kicked ass in everything except the old 1320 :D

the best car was the race-prepped Z/28, but since it's not street legal, they couldn't count it as the winner.

Brando56894 11-28-2005 04:56 PM

i thought that was the T/A charger that they didnt count.... they only used it as a control for the test or somthin like that...

BigAls87Z28 11-28-2005 08:29 PM

Thoes arent really "muscle cars" per say, they are Pony cars.

I dunno what anyone else thinks of that new "GT-R", but I think I just crapped my pants. I prefer the look of a 350z over a G35 even tho Im a fan of both. Seeing the new "Skyline" with that look just amazes me, its a little too bubbly, but that is one kick ass looking car.

i dont think it looks too bad...i just think they should have called it a "Nissan Skyline"...i mean, they kept the "Evo" name, and most of the Imports here in the US have the same name as they do overseas...but i just love the way a 1999 GT-R34 looks...thats is probably why i enjoyed the first scene in 2 Fast 2 Furious(and then fell asleep for the rest of it)

BigAls87Z28 11-29-2005 12:23 AM

Mmm, yes, the Skyline is one of the only import cars that I really like. It looks very American, even with wings and chin spoilers and NAWZ decals. It looks like it was styled after American muscle cars with is boxy design, long hood, short deck body.
The G35/350Z car looks nice, but not nearly as nice as the GT-R34's.
