Nowadays luxury cars are sleek too... look at Mercedes

And compare the styling to 60s styling... retro sells, so they went retro but not too retro.

NP_00'T/A 01-10-2006 01:09 PM

I really don't see anything retro about it honestly

Fronts are 21", rears are 22". Lutz said if they went to production it would prolly drop to a 18/19 or 19/20 setup.

do they make drag radials in 19 or 20 inches?

NJSPEEDER 01-10-2006 06:36 PM

i hope they decide to go down in wheels size a bit. they look cool and all, but eastern pa and new jersey don't have smooth as glass roads everywhere. i can see buying a rim or two a year from the spring pot hole wars.
something along the lines of 17's would be nice, if they wanna go with a staggered look 17/18 woudl be as far as i would like to see it go.

jims69camaro 01-10-2006 08:32 PM

there is nothing wrong with the concept. i would drive it as is. yes, production models will differ, but you'll still be able to tell where it came from; it won't be a completely different car. (look at the california concept and the 4th gen camaro or the banshee and the 4th gen firebird)

BigAls87Z28 01-10-2006 08:36 PM

Well well well, home finaly after a 9.5 ride.
Gents, let me tell you that pictures, no matter how great, do not explain how great this car looks IN PERSON!!
The car is NOT very tall at all, but has plenty of interior room. As someone said, Lutz got out of the car. He also drove the car down the "road" at the show, and it was great. Both nights were fantastic.
The car has very aggressive rear fenders, but not as bulky as the pics show. Only parts that I would change is the front to more aerodynamic, and the rear tails being circular like the other sport coupes in Chevy. After the show, engineers and marketing people were at the hotel, talking with everyone about what they liked, what they didnt like, and what they wanted more off. I was very impressed to see that. They were at the Heritage Center and after the unvailing. All in all, a great time and worth the trip.

And btw, for thoes who still dont think this is real, or will hit production, let me give you this.
They flew in 10 Engineers from Holden and GM-NA that were in Austrailia that are working on the RWD chassis, they have someone in the slot for teh Camaro's marketing, and they also brought in Rodger Penskee and former Chevy and GM Pres. Jim Perkins. And the most telling thing is that Lutz himself drove the car, which coming from the insider that hung out with us "would be a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good thing...very good".

NJSPEEDER 01-10-2006 09:20 PM

i hope they don't stray too far from teh concept nose, a little tweaking to the grill angle would be nice.
i think the front end as shown compliments the rest of the shape very nicely.

any word on them being less nuts with the wheel sizes for those of us living on the fine roads of new jersey?

BigAls87Z28 01-10-2006 09:46 PM

Of course they wont be stock. They are nice looking wheels, and we did comment that they should be an option, just smaller.
I would say that 16,17, and 18/19 option as you go up the scale.

WayFast84 01-10-2006 09:50 PM

Im saving up when I get a job this spring! Im putting 75% of the money I take home in the MATT NEEDS A CAMARO fund and the 25% left over Is paying off the transmision, paint and the new parts Im gonna have installed soon. I should be makin at least 75 a day If I get picked but then again Ive only gotten to catty once in 2 weeks while I was working and that was with the catty master so I didnt get payed...

that would definately be the right move. if they offered it with wheels that can be rotated all teh way around the car like 4th gens i think it would be best. they could mass produce 1 style wheel and save huge ramp up and production costs, and save the consumer a boatload of cash when it is time to buy tires.
the concept wheels are cool looking, perhaps they woudl make a nice piece as an option or to drop in the GMPP catalog or something.

From BigAl's response, it's clear the unveiling was a big success, and I would be shocked if the car isn't produced. But, you never know until you know. I just wish they would have done something like this with the GTO, took more time with it and showed it off like this...that car would've been a much bigger success right now.

NJSPEEDER 01-11-2006 02:45 PM

just the media hype for the build up and the beating GM has taken from enthusiasts would be enough for most companies to produce the car. lol
lutz made it clear in one of his first public appearances when he got to GM that there would be a return of the camaro. how well thought out the concept is and the looks of the car jsut proves how serious he and everyone else who is involved in this project really are about turning out a serious ground pounder in a package that will win over/back a lot of people who have been shopping other parts of the "pony car" segment(mustang, rx8, 350z)
i can't wait until saturday when i get to see it in person. i have the camera and about a million extra batteries. expect a lot of pictures when i get home :)

BigAls87Z28 01-11-2006 05:43 PM

If the wheels are north of 18's, price of tires wont really matter because they will already be very expensive. Expect 300 dollars for a quality tire, more if you want better performance. I figured that a set of 18/19's on a Z28 model will run you about 280 a pop for the front, and 360 a pop for the rear at least.
Now is the time to start putting money away into a money market account, CD, or some other low risk investment so that you have some cash. I think Im going to take 100 bucks out of every pay check and start putting it into an ING savings or a CD.

I was at the unveiling, and thought the design was on target. It would be interesting to re-post this poll after more people have had an opportunity to see the car in person.

i think this will get reposted after NYIAS. just nice to get a feel of everyones initial reactions though.

NJSPEEDER 01-11-2006 11:05 PM

it will definately go back up after NYIAS.
i can't believe what a good looking car it is from teh pictures, i can't wait to see it in person.

PBodyGT87 01-14-2006 12:36 PM

I think they could have done better. I don't like the grill. It's too thin from top to bottom, and it spans too wide. This looks like they slapped it together in a short amount of time. I would have hoped it would be a little more fast looking. I like the stance, however, which says muscle to me, but the body says WIND RESISTANCE. Wheel size is good, but the rims should be smaller than the 18 inches they plan to have on six cyl models. Cuz some woman is gonna buy one and drive it through every pothole on the road. I think it looks too much like the 03 to 04 mustang body. I hope it looks better in person but i'm not so thrilled about it. If they come out with a sleeker meaner looking T/A then I'd consider an f-body.

BigAls87Z28 01-15-2006 03:32 PM

Liz, when we see it in person at NY, I hope your opinion changes.

dz 01-15-2006 04:14 PM

I recommend holding all your comments until you see this car in person. I promise you, the pictures do not do it justice.

BigAls87Z28 01-15-2006 05:15 PM

Thank you DZ.

I love everything excapt for the front grill / front end. I look at the concept and think "THAT is a Camaro". There is no mistaking what it is.

I won't be buying one ntil the kids are in high school so it'll be a Charger for me when the Accord dies unless they make a 4-door version on the Camaro (calling it someting else but it has the have V8-RWD). With three young kids I need a practical but fun daily driver.

BigAls87Z28 01-15-2006 09:10 PM

There will be a V8 Sedan coming from Chevy, Pontiac and Buick.

NJSPEEDER 01-16-2006 11:29 AM

the car looks amazing in peron. i have 30 pictures from a variety of angles. i will get them resized and hosted up wednesday night for everyone to enjoy. :)

Wasted Youth 01-16-2006 05:35 PM

if they make the nose a lil less pointy and change the tailights its a done deal...did anyone see the challenger? holy *****...
