well you gotta cut the y pipe into pieces anyhow so just go to town... but installation looks like its gonna be a pain.

ar0ck 08-12-2006 08:27 PM

The problem that I have is that, I have to salvage as much as possible. These headers have never gone on a car ever, so what I have to do is install them and make sure they fit and clear properly. Then after the go ahead from my boss we are going to fabricate a Y-pipe. Then after the entire system is finished, we have to make a main Jig for the Headers & Y-pipe to make sure that all the final product matches the originals.

...but we snaped just about every bolt in the Y-pipe, and finally to put icing on the cake the last bolt on the drivers side manifold snapped in the head...

so Im pretty much beat. Probably tommorow were going to start tearing the top end apart and pre-pare for a heads & cam set up.

Big thanks to Sal, Matt, JM & Tim (67Firebird) for stoping by and lending a hand.

WayFast84 08-12-2006 09:47 PM

If I dont hang out with my girlfreind ill stop by and help.

WayFast84 08-13-2006 02:00 PM

you workin on it today?

ar0ck 08-13-2006 02:04 PM

No offense Matt, but I really need someone who has done a LT1 before. I only know my old basic small block from my Trans am, and I have never touched anything else before. I wan't someone that has ALOT of experience taking these apart so it can go back together alot faster.

Im going to call around and see how fast I can get the heads back, probably just going to get the heads & intake ported, install a cam, and button it all back together with new gaskets. I have to see what my boss will let me do with the car taking up space in the shop.

We just port a certain part of the headers by hand and thats about it.

WayFast84 08-13-2006 02:53 PM

Do it ur self ull save some green!!

qwikz28 08-13-2006 03:14 PM

why not just finish bolting up the headers now and have the heads and intake sent out while your boss takes the headers back and then reinstall the headers, heads, cam and intake all together

yay good news, my boss bought me a set of cheep-o headers to get by for a month instead of installing the manifolds back in!

Hopefully the top half of the motor will be torn down by this weekend, and figure another week for the heads & intake to be cleaned up.

the headers can be test fitted without the bolt. that would save a ****load of time

edit: ok i see he did that. i thought he didnt try the new headers on cause he immediately removed the heads
