If you go with heads/cam now it will be easier if you decide later to go with forced induction. If you go with forced induction now and then decide to go heads/cam later it will be extra work.

most good NA heads/cam setups work at their best with a blower FWIW...what works for one might not work well with the other. You can make good power with either, you'll make better TQ going FI, but if you want tq or huge dyno numbers do heads/cam or cam only but make sure the setup is nitrous friendly ;) nitrous=best bang for the buck IMO.

usually its a little more then that, especially since he doesnt have gasket kits OR a full bolt on car yet. total install charges will be much closer to 2k. im close by and willing to help andrew. i'll be doing my own car over the winter so i'll have some experience under my belt

Tru2Chevy 10-25-2006 10:06 AM

Yea, it wouldn't say that it was a piece of cake, but we had a 20+ page guide with detailed instructions and pics that Bill got off of one of the LSx how-to sites. We managed to get it all done and button it back up with no major issues, and it started up first try :)

its not really that difficult...FWIW harris speed shop does heads/cam installs for $899+ tax so trust me my prices are pretty accurately portrayed ;) i think ttp did them for like $1100 but they took them off their site for some reason. All together in a garage with the right tools & a good air gun you could be done in under 10 hours doing it with the engine in the vehicle.

humm.. i have a usable garage but not a good/right set of tools and dont really trust myself to tear apart my engine that much. anyone willing to lend a hand?? money will be involved and food!! <ohh god.. i sound like wayfast now>

foff667 10-25-2006 12:08 PM

honestly its not that difficult....it is alot of hard work though...just double check everything and have 1 person with you to help you pick up heavy/awkward items...keep hands on a project such as that to a minimum though.

Tru2Chevy 10-25-2006 12:23 PM

Yea, just get 1 or 2 people that will commit to helping you with the whole thing. That way you don't have to worry about searching to 20 minutes for the bolts that hold down the airlid assembly....right Bill?

Typically you can hit low 12s high 11s with just bolt-ons. You wouldn't need anything serious to hit mid-low 11s in a heads/cam set-up

oh one ls1 SS 10-25-2006 02:32 PM

i need more powerrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! :drive: what bolt ons should i be looking into?

foff667 10-25-2006 02:34 PM

TB, catback, pulley, EWP, gears, you probably already have the ls6 intake if your SN is a hint to your vehicle.

all depends how serious you are...98TAdriver ran what 12.5 with a ton of bolt ons...then theres people like brandon who ran 11's but when pretty far into weight reduction...again depends how far you go & not all cars are made equal ;)

Well I went 12.088 @ 115 with a stock convertor launching at 1450 rpms. I also had......deep breath lol

BG ram air kit, lid, filter, ported maf, ported tb, LS6 intake, electric water pump, underdrive pulley, headers, off-road y, catback , cut-out, 3.73 gears, tuning, slicks/skinnies(dropped .2 and gain 2 mph from this), and I also had some weight reduction(bmr k-member, bmr upper/lower a-arms, jack/spare/rear seats/passenger seat/floor mats/rear hatch divider).

;)
