try doing some research before opening your mouth
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...bal_gasprices/

that site has a graph for you to see that other countries are not paying close to $19 a gallon

The Goverment doesnt contorl pices but they Control the CAFE standards which were suppose to be updated ever year. They havent in over 10 years and the standards are alittle less now. This would over all effect the price of gas becuase it would forced car companies to think of effiency and alternative fuels alot sooner then now. So it is partly the American goverments fault we are in a crisis now. California changed lwas in there state to change the CAFE standards and auto compmanies sued the state. Gas companies have deep pockets in the goverment and in auto companies.

Venzuela pays so cheap because most of there cars run off the sugar cane and go figure america gets alot of oil from that country. They seem smart to me run there cars off sugar cane and sell oil to a country like america who needs it.

No im not saying bush get profits from the taxes but from the profit of his own personal finances.
Each state has there own gas tax. I thought I heard NY may try to suspend there gas tax from memorial day to labor day.

While his post is way off, you should read all of the article that you referred to before you belittled him. Your point, though valid, has less impact seeing that the information is over three years old. Now, what were you saying about research?

Think you pay a lot for gas? Perhaps you'd prefer to live in Venezuela.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated March, 2005.

only had 13 miles left till empty....sorry had to fill up. Its entirely my fault the plan didn't work. all because i spent 55 dollars at the pump.

sweetbmxrider 05-03-2008 12:52 AM

i forgot to get gas...oh well i guess me and everyone else who "boycotted" will fill up today. wait, that totally defeats the purpose of a gas strike! who has ever heard of workers going on strike for a day whom later received what they wanted???? show of hands???

String 05-03-2008 12:59 AM

heres a hand for u. :gay:

wow, somebody else knows what's going on... it's a shame not all of them get it.

something to think about: fully 1/4 of all crude used by our country comes from North America.
almost 50% of crude used by our country comes from countries in OPEC.
only 10% of crude is imported from Saudi Arabia. say what you will, but if you want to get their attention, something BIG needs to happen. you'd have more of an impact on North American crude production and OPEC countries, which include Ecuador, Nigeria and Venezuela, than the Saudis with any boycott.

these figures come from raw data on the Department of Energy's website: http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pe...im0_mbbl_m.htm

edit: whenever applicable, my posts will contain a link to the information i use in any argument, so at least you know i will be doing my research.

So? That's the point of capitalism. Only way to stop it is for the gonvernment to buy out ALL the gas corporations; or at least all the american ones and forcing out tho others, and impose some form of variable limitation tied into the price per barrel. And do you really see that happening?

I only read about half the article because the chart holds pretty much true up to date for germany

When i calculated it when i was over there in DECEMBER it was around 5 or 6 dollars a gallon for diesel............

this is why i posted it up ;)

And if you want me to I can call my cousin and ask what its up to there ;)
