600 for a lease?

She owed a combined $23k on her Camaro and GTP, and they only gave her $14k in trade for both, so the other $9k got rolled into the lease payment.

Losing $9k on thhose cars sounds like a raping and a half to me. OUCH!

BigAls87Z28 05-20-2008 08:08 PM

I guess...shesh 600. My brother had lower payments with a 5 year loan on a 45k Avalanch with just his Explorer that he traded in for under 10k.

And only 275miles to a tank? 300 miles to the tank on the Charger? 19 gallons and 300 miles to a tank = 15.789 mpg. If she is getting a combined 20mpg, which is awesome for that car, a 19 gallons should get you 380miles.

9k on top of the 34k is a 43k car!! Shesh!! I would have just toughed it out, sold the Camaro for as much as I could, payed it off, and work on paying off the GP.

Someone did not do their homework. I give this thread a D+, lost points on buying a mopar and lost points on losing 9k.I gave simpathy in your grade due to the fact you have to pay $600 a month on a mopar. Many choices we make end up kicking our selfs right where it counts, in the wallet.

:twak: we don't bash mopars here....

BigAls87Z28 05-21-2008 09:14 AM

Yes we do.

Challenger = Tank
Avenger = ugly turd
Charger....eh it was cool till Pontiac brought the G8.

Blackbirdws6 05-21-2008 09:14 AM

As I told you at the trucks, the dealer I bought mine from was attempting to charge a mark-up on the car but after breaking them down...and myself for 2 hrs, they finally met my number I would pay. I simply told them I don't want to feel like an idiot paying for this car. I like it and the one you have coming in is my first choice....however my second choice is at another dealer so unless you meet me where I wanna be, you are not selling the car to me today.

It sucks they have to play games with this car because even I know after the hype is gone and the new wears off, they will be throwing some money on the hoods. The car should continue to sell well but no way over sticker.

Sucks to hear you were so upside down on your trades, but in 3 years you will be clear....unless you try and trade the charger in for something else.

Yea....car salesmen suck I wish I was an obnoxious prick cuz then that would be a great job I was paying $725 for my z and gtp so I'm happy to pay less for the charger.....I'm planning on keeping in till january of 2011 cuz u can get out of their leases 3 months early and then ill prolly be getting a new challenger I'm happy with my decision and I think its the best car I've had out of the 7 I've owned.

Yea, dealerships now compete with each other on how low they can buy cars from people. I forget the software name, but Fette has it. Basically you enter the possible trade into it and it shows what every other dealer paid nationwide on that trade and you are ranked on how low you can get it. Then the dealership puts in on the lot and marks it up 10k.

remember, market value is what people are willing to pay for something. if you ain't willing to pay it, then move on.

really, i don't see the reason to brow-beat this girl on her decision. she made out, and she is happy with her car. how can you possibly fault that? the key, of course, is, that you learn from your mistakes (ie the Z and GT, and how you got to where you were with them). not everyone can play the game that the dealerships play successfully. they play the game everyday and you buy a car, what, every three to ten years? they are much better at it than most people, and unless you have great stamina they will eventually wear you down. even so, they often T/O an educated customer so that "fresh eyes" are constantly banging the customer's head against the desk. it's not like you bring a tag-team partner to the dealer to help you out when your stamina gets low...

the only thing i can see that sucks is their faith in their vehicle. from what i can gather between the lines here, they are saying their car will only be worth 12k after 3 years. that's a big hit of depreciation.

jims69camaro 05-21-2008 11:59 AM

btw, if you turn the car in early, you lose. then they don't have to abide by what they said the car was going to be worth, and the mileage and everything else about the car could end up costing you big time.

just so you know, books have been written about the dealership experience and what to look for and all of that. one whole chapter was devoted to leases because they can be so complex and involved (in one book i read). unless you really know what you are doing, you can't read a lease agreement and know exactly how much the car is costing you for the time that you have the use of it. never turn a car in early is all the advice i can give you at this point. you want to stay out of the hole you just dug yourself out of, right? keep moving in a positive direction and all of that.

CamaroGirlie 05-21-2008 12:14 PM

Chrysler has a program when u lease a car that u can trade it in 3 months early for another chrysler/dodge/isuzu car and u won't be penalized.....its on all the paper work that I received from the dealership. Plus I have either leased or financed 7 cars in the last year from various car dealerships so I'm pretty up to date with the games they play lol

Slo86Bird 05-22-2008 10:38 PM

matt, yer gay, shut up.

PolarBear 05-23-2008 08:58 AM

I saw the markups at Coleman and said a big F U to them. I went on Pontiac.com that night and searched other dealerships in NJ and started calling around and found that Greenbrook Pontiac, about an hour north of Coleman, and paid sticker for my Solstice. I didnt mind paying "full" price compared to a BS dealer markup.
I do think it is ironic that they charge this markup when their slogan is "We will never lose a sale because of price"

the salesman that you paid sticker to made a KILLING in commission. There's always a lot of money rolled into that sticker price that can be talked out..

BigAls87Z28 05-23-2008 12:07 PM

Eh...not really. The Solstice isnt a high profit car, in fact its on the lower end. I was talking to a Saturn salesperson and they said average Sky, which retails more then the Solstice on average, makes the dealer about 400-600 bucks, with the commission to the salesperson about 150.
Id rather pay sticker then getting my ahole ripped for an additional 5k mark up.

BonzoHansen 05-23-2008 12:41 PM

For an uber-hot car paying sticker is not unreasonable - to me that is the extra you pay for wanting it now. For instance, if I wanted a new Camaro so bad I had to get one in the 1st few weeks it is out, I'd expect to pay sticker - but not over. 6 months later my story may change.

Exactly, that is what Colemen has on the GXP Solstice...

Coleman honestly sucks

jims69camaro 05-24-2008 08:02 AM

they all suck, to varying degrees. next time you are in a dealership, seriously take a look around. all of that nice stuff cost money and guess where the money came from... and remember, that just as many people you see on the sales floor, there are as many working "behind closed doors" that get a salary, too. it's not easy making enough money to keep the doors open, but it sure helps when someone pays "sticker" or more...

oh, and take a look at your "sticker" and tell me if the dealer added anything to the original Monroney that all new cars are supposed to have "by law". i'd bet dollars to doughnuts the dealer added things like "pin stripe, vehicle VIN etching, undercoat, special paint clearcoat treatment" and things like that. now, tell me one manufacturer that needs "special paint clearcoat treatment" (or something like it) applied to their factory fresh paint jobs... btw, there are other ways for the dealer to jack up the "sticker" price of the car, but there isn't enough room here to list them all.

while you may think you are "aware of their games", just know they there are more ways to "shear a sheep" than there are dealerships out there. each of them has their own ways of "paying for the lights". be happy with your car and the fact that you won't have to deal with the dealer for three whole years. that's enough in itself to be content with.
