i got two 3rd gens that i drive everyday . they waste more at the pump but make up for it with cheap parts. my cars do fall apart but could easlly can be fixed with out taking the whole car apart. my TransAm is 24 and has more things and is in better condition then any 10 year old vw . the way i think is what ever imports can do american has done it better.

I never called them stupid. but thanks for the compliment on being an all mighty brainiac..I don't consider myself one, but I digress.

Another good one. Anybody else have something to add to the list?

Gas mileage with high power cars comes to mind. Imports seem to do that well.

Mike 03-01-2009 01:05 PM

so do lsx cars. i almost mentioned that one, but decided not to

Yeah, but some of the LS1 cars got 30+ mpg on the highway with "305" hp. So that's a no-go.

You forgot one part, if they buy a new car they don't have to repair it. They can just drive it, and worry about. Total cost = 0. Maintenance cost = 0 (I know all my maintenance is covered til 36k, dunno about others). It's kinda silly to compare a 17+ year old car to a new one. New one is almost always better, this is no exception.

The free maintenance for 36K miles is a BMW deal only....haven't heard of any other manufacturers offering that deal (and it is a good one).

Even though I'm an old fart I can relate to a kid wanting to build up and drive a car on a young person's bux, and I give big props to that. Especially if it's an American car. Turd gens mighta been kinda crappy from the factory, and by now most of 'em have been hammered on, but they are a dayum good starting [or finishing] platform for any type of performance ya wanna do. And a big block is a decent fit, which isn't something you can say about a 4th gen. And with 1st and 2nd gens priced out there where ya need money like CBRRRR Mike's bux [], a turd gen ain't a bad way to go. Who knows, maybe one day when ubg gets rid of his Monte Carlo he will get another turd gen. Too bad I'm a bald **** and can't grow my mullet back.:mrgreen::mrgreen:
