I personally hate the GTI more than any other car in the world, for the sole reason that almost every person I've met who owns one thinks they are the greatest cars in the world and HATE all American cars. I personally think their hideous looking, and I don't know how he can say their producing the same amount of power as American cars with their 200hp?. Then they complain that no shop will change their oil, probably because of the "sophisticated" German engineering...its to the point where i get frustrated just seeing one lol

when he says VW is top three in the world and top ten for years, ask him where he got his information. if he wiggles, nail his ass to the wall. not even VW's own magazines would say such lies. then go to consumer's reports and show him how bad they really are.
during bench racing, sometimes some unreal statements get made. but for someone to claim they are top 3 world and top ten for years... i mean, come on... honduh can't even say that (oh, wait, yes they can...) |
a lot of my friends have GTIs or some kind of VW and none of em ever rip on my car accept that they go around corners better than i do which is true but for the most part they are scared of it haha

this "top 3" thing confuses me... top 3 WHAT? top in safety? power? sales? reliability? cost? kangaroos? cup holders?
there are so many variables. i don't understand how a car company could claim they're the top of anything without specifying what it is that puts them there above all others. |

It's easy.. wait until you fix your car, tell him you want to race and whoop his ass. That'll show him. And you can still do his GF for ****s and giggles.

you can be pro domestic, and pro gm all you want. but please stop comparing a 20+ year old third gen to NEW cars. you might win in a drag race, but everything else about ANY other car will be nicer, thats the point of 20 years of progress and technology.
if you argue against a NEW vw, and your argument is your iroc, you are a bigger fanboi then them |
Invite him to come to the F-body show in August. Maybe you can go to a VW water show and see how the other half lives. Each car has it's positives and negitives. 8-)
|
1.) Ask him how many VW's go for hundreds of thousands of dollars when they become classics
2.) Ask him to go powershift a Jetta, and see how it reacts. 3.) Ask him about VW's racing heritage. And ask him why actual German people think that they are low performance bitches compared to Porsche, BMW, and MB. 4.) Remind him that his engine DOESN'T make the same amount of power as a larger American motor. 5.) Ask him to compare his R32's engine with GM's DI V6 and compare the two Everybody I know who has owned a VW has been adamant about never owning another one. And that's around 10 people. |

http://www.fquick.com/blog/2009_Ford...han_Honda/2876 Not GM, but it gives you something to go on

Just tell him VW hasnt made a car worth owning in the last 20 years. see what that makes him say. I dont know how you can argue for vw when their top of the line sports car makes 200hp and is fwd
Edit: and yes the recent concensus is that their is virtually nothing different about modern japanese cars than modern american cars. I am a fan of toyota, but only because of cars like the mk3 supra and mr2. I think the original root cause of the "american cars are junk" thing came from cars like the cavalier, escort, and the K cars. The caddys, corvettes, mustangs, crown vics, impalas, all the fullsize cars in general have always been well built since the beginning. they can stfu! |

I'm not really trying to be a dick, either. I'm not a flag-waving THEY TOOK OUR JERRRRBBSSS type of guy. I just try and buy American as much as I can because I have an general understanding (albeit a bit basic) of how our economy works and where the money goes. That's not to say I like fostering business behaviors like we have seen over the past decade or so... |
exactly im definately with you on that bill

Last time I checked R8 had a V10 and was not FWD. Did I look at the wrong sticker? |

In 1998, Lamborghini became a subsidiary of the German car manufacturer Audi AG, which is in turn a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, which is in turn a subsidiary of Porsche. So using transitivity, that makes a Lambo a Porsche. Huh? |

EDIT. VW owns 99.14% of Audi is that not enough? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group |

I was saying that cars like the cavalier/escort arent worth owning either. And no i was not referring to audi. The guy is saying VW is the greatest manufacturer, not audi, porsche, and vw and everything they own. I never compared them to GM and all the brands they own. I was referring to the fact that they, VW, have not made any kind of sports car, or in general a car worth going out of your way to own(not worth owning), not a car you buy because you need it or because its a good car. And yes i am aware some people may not like my opinions, thats why i dont tout them off as facts |
