Good news. But as ford found out, so will chevy, One car cant keep a company going.

BigAls87Z28 06-29-2009 11:50 PM

A 450-475hp V8 in a 3700lbs Camaro, with better steering, braking and less body roll would make for a perfect Z28.
Remember that the 3600lb Mustang GT floats north of 2 tons with teh GT500 package.
Thats WITHOUT IRS set up. Thats just a big 5.4SC motor, a 6spd manual gear box, brakes, stickers, gfx and wheels.

dont make me repost all the great GM cars.

Ford just discoverd how to make a good car again. I guess they left the recipe under the fridge after 86....

Its not a Z28. It doesnt fit the history.
Trans Am never stayed true to to any engine or performance pedagry. Thats why its dead.

Z28, however, has always been about total performance. It never had a big block to make power, it never used power adders or any sort of massive displacement engines. It was born from homologation racing. Z28 has been the race car for Camaro from day one, born from Trans Am, then following into IROC series in the 70's and till 90.
It continued to do well in SCCA racing series with the 4th gen as well.
The Camaro will enter the SCCAs Koni Challenge in the Grand Sport class, going fender to fender with the Mustang FR500.
THAT Camaro should have a direct relationship with the Z28.

all i know is i hope it stays around because by next year (August) im going to put my order in for one.....

firebirdcrazy 06-30-2009 11:53 AM

As cool as it would be, that was a bad idea (for the company) even during the muscle car heydey.

They have plenty of great cars but the majority doesnt agree and cant get past all the hype. Ford has an awsome line up to but people dont want them. General People listen to all the sterotypes

NastyEllEssWon 06-30-2009 08:27 PM

the thunderbird supercoupe was an awesome car made after 86:nod:

camaro never had IRS or a 4k lb curb weight either. your reasoning for that in other posts was new technology and changing times....i can say the need for power adders follows the same path? no?

BigAls87Z28 07-01-2009 03:59 PM

1979 Camaro Z28 probably came pretty close to the 5th gen.

Camaro was #1 in sales for its segment, meaning it beat out Mustang and Challenger for the month of June.

BonzoHansen 07-01-2009 05:42 PM

Heaviest 2nd gen was around 3600 pounds, and I won't even go into the ease of lightening one up. Not 3900+. And 2nd gens have a bigger trunk too. Hard to believe. And a back seat a human can sit in.

BigAls87Z28 07-01-2009 05:45 PM

NO WAY does the 2nd gen have a bigger trunk then the 5th gen.
Just for the fact that a 2nd gen has a big spare tire sitting in it negates the fact.

I thought that 2nd gens were well north of 3700lbs.

BonzoHansen 07-01-2009 05:51 PM

No, you are wrong on both accounts - you getting Camaro facts from NastyLS1?

The 5th gen we looked at and sat in this weekend AT THE CAMARO NATIONALS YOU DIDN'T GO TO MR. CAMARO has crappy trunk. The spare made the floor jet up way in the way.

I have space saver spare in my 77 and can fit more than you think in the trunk. I'll go trunk to trunk with a 5th gen.

And a grown (6") cannot sit in the back - Billy tried and had to bend his head over in order to sit in it. Fail. And we watched as an 8 year old boy could not sit behind his Mom when she was driving. Fail.

Wrong. The Camaro's trunk is BIG, its opening is small.
You know how big I am. I sat in the back. My head hit the roof, thats all. Its not a friggin cross over, its not a G8, so I dont expect leg space out the ass, but it has equal or greater room then my 2nd or third gen does.

Mike 07-01-2009 06:54 PM

your head only hit the roof? well that's safe.

how many golf bags will fit in the trunk?

BonzoHansen 07-01-2009 08:06 PM

I partially recant my trunk comment. Local dealer has 3 V6 cars on the lot and one was open being looked at, so I stopped. The one we saw in carlisle must have been messed up (or the SS is different), this one did not have a weird hump we saw in the SS Saturday. Still small though.

One was up on those ramps dealers use. The car had an exhaust leak. Nice. I will say it looks so easy to put headers in that car most of the people on this site could do it. lol

Still weak a 4000 pound larger car with back seats built for fidget. For comparison 2 of us were in the back of a 2nd gen this weekend much more comfortably. 3 of us not so comfortably. :)

probably one. maybe 2. Throw them in the most useless back seat since a 300ZX 2+2.

maroman88 07-01-2009 08:46 PM

isnt the spare tire an option on the 5th gen... if the car has it, thats prob the weird hump u saw in the one car... vs the can of goup sealant

BonzoHansen 07-01-2009 10:32 PM

anything else I can help you with, old man?

Mike 07-02-2009 12:05 AM

second set is womens clubs with no driver, GAY VIDEO

BigAls87Z28 07-02-2009 12:06 AM

Get the ef out. Two sets of golf clubs, still room for a large suit case. And teh seats fold down if you needed more space since apparently you cant fit anything back there.
