Oh god yeah. my friend and me punched a rod through the oil pan in his jeep. Finished the trail, drove back, pulled over when we finally diagnosed the problem, AND drove home 10 miles away. Half a quart left, but didnt hickup once. IMO, the only thing Jeep ever did right was their motor, everything else sucks

Slow-V6 08-19-2009 08:16 AM

The people that we bougt our Firehawk from were going to trade it in on cash for clunkers. Thank god they had the idea to put it up for sale to see if anyone was interested in it.

It won't qualify

I see nothing wrong with this program.

I've been trying to sell my 96 Trans Am for ages. I've had no luck.

I currently lease a 2009 Mercedes C300 4-matic and a 2009 ML 320 Blutec for the wife.

I would like a 2010 Hyundai Genisisi Coupe 4 cyl turbo automatic. If I wasn't leasing the C-class right now, I would trade the Trans Am in for the Genisis in a heart beat.

Do I want to see the Trans Am crushed/ destroyed, no, not at all....I would love an f body enthusiast to buy it from me..... but if I get no buyers.... and want a brand new car that gets way better gas mileage and has a great warranty.....and a get a guarenteed $3500 for it.... can you blame me?

I think it is very sad to see incredible cars like a Typhoon or Cyclone being destroyed as I feel these a dream vehicles for me..... but I can't blame the person.

Iroc-z86 08-19-2009 09:46 AM

If someone traded in a typhoon or cyclone for the c4c they are the biggest idiot ever. even as a beat up pile of crap its worth more than 4500. IF i was a salesman and someone tried to do that id offer them 5k for the typhoon because i know its worth a decent amount and could resell it or something.

To us older cars have value. To "normies" an old car is just that.

sweetbmxrider 08-19-2009 10:46 AM

i hear they are selling the scrap metal to china.....again.

great mooar POS parts with POS metals. yay recycling

RiggsLW81 08-19-2009 11:18 AM

you think a vette is bad? ...i read an article on MSN.com that a guy traded in like a 86 or 87 Maserati for cash for clunkers! a freakin Maserati w low mileage too...not that im all into them, but ur telling me you couldnt get more than 4500 for that? what a f--kin tool..

NJ Torque 08-19-2009 11:30 AM

saw a turbo buick traded in... i alomst cryed...

Blacdout96 08-19-2009 12:18 PM

Peoples stupidity make those cars all the more rarer. The Maserati was probably a 3500GT or something pos in the world of Maserati, still as you said, I'm sore more then 4500 could of been obtained for it.

I see peopel selling C4's for 8-9K still, but they jump at an offer to get up to 4500 on the car. Come to me wiht one for 5K, and I might buy it before you go to scrap it, I could use some parts before I part it out ( rather part it then drive the yuppie moblie)

FlyingDutchman 08-19-2009 06:13 PM

annnnd c4c hits a snagg

Should've known this would happen

Blacdout96 08-20-2009 10:03 AM

Just looked at my co workers computer real quick, had a white GTA, and it was MINT, I mean G-E-M inside and out.....and it fell victim to the program. bunch of pics of the car and everyone crowded around it in disbelief they had to seize the motor in it. what a **** off to trade that in.

JL8Jeff 08-20-2009 11:40 AM

I heard that you can negotiate a trade in towards a new car and then they add the CFC cash on top of the trade! If this is true, then that's why someone would trade a Vette or Syclone. So for example, if they give you $10K in trade value on your car and then another $3500 for CFC you make out pretty good. The whole program was conceived and executed poorly. It now takes a lot of used cars that people would normally pay under $2500 for off the street and forces people to pay more for basic transportation or not be able to afford it at all.

maroman88 08-20-2009 11:49 AM

how would that benefit a dealer jeff? they cant then resell that car they just gave u 10k for...

I think the dealers are thinking they will get reimbursed by the gov't for the vehicle trade value plus the rebate. It doesn't make any sense, but then neither does the program. I've heard of some high end cars traded in and engine destroyed so either a lot of people are misunderstanding the program or a bunch of dealers are about to get royally screwed by the gov't.

maroman88 08-20-2009 12:16 PM

hahaha that sounds more like sumthin a dealer would do!

BonzoHansen 08-20-2009 01:23 PM

Jeff if dealers think that they are stupid.

You gotta remember cars like a decent DD quality 3rd gen or early C4 may still have better open market value but the trade-in value probably is not $4500. And not everyone wants to be bothered with private party sales, they'd rather not deal with the inherent trouble & risk that comes from dealing with strangers. So C4C they go. I can totally understand. Not everyone loves their car. You guys are not the societal norm when it comes to cars.

JL8Jeff 08-20-2009 03:27 PM

Just announced that it ends Monday so it's pretty much over at this point.

BonzoHansen 08-20-2009 03:47 PM

Good, now may be I can buy a half decent C4 for $4500
