I guess it really is location dependant.

I find it odd that my comcast here is faster than my 2nd tier FIoS at my house.. *shrug*

Opt online, we have had it for years. I also live in sussex county at the end of their coverage so i dont think this is that bad.

It looks like that speedtest.net site is giving bogus returns. I ran both sites from work earlier and now from home and the results aren't even close between the 2 speed tests.

I saw a 12-14kb difference from several servers last night so something isn't right. It might be timing and traffic, but then that throws out the validity of the test regardless.

Just ran a test from here at work:

Speakeasy download: 41374
Speedtest download: 36920

Speakeasy upload: 4299
Speedtest upload: 34910

Thats $50 a month comcast internet. As always the major downside of cable is they cheap out on up rate but then again everyone did until fios came out.

Personally I'll never switch to FIOS. Besides the fact that comcast has great customer service FIOS' rate seems to climb when you wanna gain anything over cable speeds. It may have changed but then again its not available around here anyway...

Verizon fios via the speakeasy test

We pay $50/mo for it now since we cancelled our telephone service with them, used to be $41/mo.

Remember that 19.99 / month is a promotion for 6 months only after you get jacked up for about $50/month. As for comcast I couldn't be angrier... I am a high bandwith user and comcast does not tell you that they have a bandwith limit of 250 gigbytes a month, I had exceeded this well over 800 gig/month. I had been suspended from comcast for a year and am currently awaiting fios in my town. I will never run comcast again
