And yea you can get an H1N1 shot... Montclair is the state school distributor and I think we are getting the vaccine soon.

A lot of towns have clinics too. Long Valley had one Tuesday for the h1n1 shot

I don't mean any disrespect but you're completely wrong. Swine flu IS H1N1. It was renamed due to the reasons listed earlier in this thread. You're able to get the "regular" flu shot just about anywhere and you can also get the swine/H1N1 shot depending on your location and availability.

There are currently 3 companies(as far as I know) making the swine/H1N1 shot/vaccine. There's a nasal application and an actual shot.

Swine flu and Avian flu are strains of H1N1, influenza A.

Frosty 11-12-2009 01:53 PM

That is correct.

I want to get the bird flu too...I just want to the complete farmyard collection of flu's :D

Does 42, in mark42's case, stand for the IQ he possesses? If you don't know what you're talking about at least educate yourself and read, stop spreading misinformation, there are plenty of idiots in this world already.

Tsar 11-12-2009 01:58 PM

Aparantly Mark is not the only IQ challenged person that has this issue.

Ok, I did get educated. Here are the facts as presented by the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention):

Quote:

Questions & Answers
This document includes questions and answers about the seasonal flu shot. For information about the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine, see http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/

What is the flu shot?

The flu shot is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. It contains three seasonal influenza viruses. The three seasonal vaccine viruses – one A (H3N2) virus, one regular seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus (not the 2009 H1N1 virus), and one B virus – are representative of the seasonal influenza vaccine strains recommended for that year. Viruses for the flu shot are grown in eggs. A seasonal flu shot will not protect against 2009 H1N1 flu.
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/flushot.htm

Yep, that is from the horses mouth. See stupid people like me have to double check the factually correct info I posted before to be sure its right. So 2009 H1N1 is not the same as A (H1N1)

And yes, there is a special vaccine just for 2009 (H1N1)

If you want to argue the point, please do it with the CDC, as I am apparently too stupid to discuss things of this nature with you geniuses.

Quoted because I guess I was not clear.

Swine flu, like Avian flu, is a strain of the H1N1 virus.

Saying that H1N1 = Swine Flu implies that all types of H1N1 are Swine Flu, which is wrong.

However, Swine Flu H1N1 is a subset of the H1N1 virus classification. So Swine Flu IS H1N1.

This is essentially like having a set of "Chevy V8s" and a subset of "Gen III"s.

ALL Gen IIIs are Chevy V8s.
NOT all Chevy V8s are Gen IIIs.

Frosty 11-12-2009 04:32 PM

For the purpose of this discussion/this thread swine flu and H1N1 are are one in the same. We could break down the different strains, avian flu etc but it wouldn't really matter. For someone to say they got the "regular swine flu" shot but the H1N1 shot isn't available...makes....no...sense...lol

79CamaroDiva 11-12-2009 04:43 PM

H1N1 shots are available to the public in a lot of places. I could have gotten it yesterday but don't trust it. Never had the flu and never had a flu shot, why start now

Tough break yet again. The whole industry is a mess right now. Frozen budgets, slashed workforce, the whole 9.
