Sony was the target because they went after someone who was able to jailbreak a PS3 to run Linux. So Anonymous(a big hacker group) decide since they didn't think Sony was in the right it was up to them to teach Sony a lesson. This isn't the first time they've hacked but this is by far the worst.

BTW, for all of you Xbox fanboi's, MS just issued a bulletin about phishing and hacking scams through Black OPS.

Slow-V6 04-28-2011 09:00 AM

Well I guess my account was hacked even though its been deleted for 1 1/2 months prior to the hack.. Got a nice email from Sony saying my **** has been compromised and that we should keep an eye out on our credit for any unusual behavior.. Thanks Sony...

Sony, whose computers were hacked April 17, on Thursday said it had encrypted the credit-card data of its PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers, but not their personal and contact information.

The company maintained in an updated Q&A that it had no evidence of credit-card information having been stolen, but that it could "not rule out the possibility."

Considering they stored the contact information in plaintext, I'd imagine that they didn't have any sort of super duper fancy encryption on the credit card information. I mean, they already had their rsa encryption cracked using basic math and statistical probability.

Yeah, we just got the same email a few days ago, and never contacted them prior.

PSN should be back up this week with some new stuff.

Sony has revealed that 10 million credit card accounts may have been exposed two weeks ago when a hacker broke into the company's computers in San Diego and stole data from 77 million PlayStation Network accounts.

During a news conference in Tokyo on Saturday, Kaz Hirai, Sony's executive deputy president, offered the company's first public apology by an executive and promised to compensate customers. "We offer our sincerest apologies," Hirai said, then bowed deeply in a Japanese custom showing regret, at the news conference, a recording of which can be viewed here.

Hirai said Sony would give affected customers 30 days of free access to its Qriocity music-streaming service as well as 30 days of access to its PlayStation Plus online game service. In addition, Sony said it will provide credit card protection services for the 10 million customers whose data were compromised.

Sony last week said it had encrypted credit card data, but not other account information, including names, addresses, email addresses and birth dates.

More hacking discovered:

Quote:

Sony said Monday that it had discovered that more credit card information and customer profiles had been compromised during an attack on its servers last week. In a news release issued by Sony, the company said that it had discovered hackers had gained access to the Sony Online Entertainment servers, which contain approximately 24.6 million customer accounts and 12,700 credit card and debit card numbers. Sony said the hackers might have stolen this information, but the company could not be sure. Sony Online Entertainment is a division of Sony that creates multiplayer online games for the PS3 and PlayStation Portable gaming platforms. The announcement of more compromised customer information was another black eye for Sony, which is facing international pressure to answer questions about the attacks on its servers, and to disclose exactly how many customers were affected by the breach.

I do Love me some XBL... Gladly pay 50.00 a year for the added saftey..

Frosty 05-08-2011 04:12 PM

So basically you posted up just to rub it in the faces of people that own a PS3? A simple google search would tell you if it's up or not.

No ETA, was supposed to be back up late last week but Sony is still supposedly doing some internal testing. Oh well, sucks some info got taken but it's still a free service, no real loss here.

I am worried about my info that has been stolen from my PSN account like my credit card info from the games I purchased and **** like that! If you call that rubbing it in then I am rubbing it in my own face as well..

Some info has been stolen you say?? I think they got just about everyones info and who knows what they are planning on doing with it.. Yes it is a free service with not the best security out there.
