Because people on the internet say so.

Seriously though, when is GM gonna start pumping out diesel cars/trucks?

This is lame.

People on the internet are sometimes right, 60% of the time.

It's been getting praise elsewhere.

If there is one thing I learned about this place, that whatever the collective group here says, it tends to go the other way.
So if that is any indication, the Colorado should do really well. Right now, GM has no plans to bring it to the US.

You, sir, are way off base with your comparision to the SSR.
First off, the SSR was a halo car, a car where GM can exercise some design over function. That huge flop lasted a few years, sold what it needed to, did what it had to do, and was gone.
They aren't "testing the waters" with this truck, this is the truck that will be produced for places like Thailand, Australia, and other Far East markets. But there is a good chance that we could see this here in the US, despite the official word out of GM.

They have several designers working these cars, but yes, there is a brand language that Chevrolet wants to have. The Colorado wears it, as will most Chevy products.

Some people, yes, but the people that do need a truck usually go with a Silvy over a Colorado. There are many people that are fighting for the Americans to stay in this market, and it just won't happen. Profit margins are way higher, and production capacity at the full size plants would love to keep the doors open.
If you price out a crew cab, 4wd, long bed, 5.3 liter Colorado, you are looking deep into the 30's.

What's going on Al?

redsoxsstink 10-13-2011 10:45 PM

the 15-20grand range would be competitive. i think i see commercials for the fully loaded scion god edition is like 22k? to me the sonic is just an update of the terrible aveo. idk if any of you have driven a new one and compared it to the old one but the old one was crap i feel.

chevy needs something to compete with accord/civic coupes, and scions. also on a side note, just something i was thinking abt. the update of the camaro should come one the AWD cts platform:wink: people want a car they can drive year round. yes it possible to people to drive rwd in the snow but that requires 1/2 a brain which most people dont have

Sonic starts at 14.5k, tops out at 19.5k. Spark will slot beneath that.

MY2014 with the revised Cruze. They already announced a diesel Cruze.

95% chance it will come here. It will be quite some time off, since Colorado won't start production for a bit

I was wrong, by my editor in chief was right. Meh, no big deal. Still shocked they are bringing it here, but due to Dodge and Ford leaving the market open, could mean big sales.

That is the Sonic, and it goes against the Fiesta, Fit, Versa, Accent, and Yaris.

Cruze goes against Focus. There are no plans for a Cruze coupe. For the life of me, they did not see the need for a Cruze coupe when developing the car. Namely because most of the Cruze's development was based in GM Korea. They are HUGE sedan fans, not big on coupes or hatches.

sweetbmxrider 10-14-2011 07:51 PM

Give me 4 doors any day of the week, I hate climbing into the back of coupes.

BigAls87Z28 10-14-2011 08:14 PM

Coupes have their place. Not a **** will be given by the owners, they want style over function.

BTW drove the Sonic yesterday. Very good car for someone looking to downsize.

How's the interior? Back when I wanted a nice little car(like my old Saturn) unchecked out the fiesta which was amazing. The only problem with it was 1 of the six cup holders was on the drivers side door and jabbed into my left quad. It pisses me of when company do something so stupid like that.

I'm also wondering do cars come with column gear shifts still? Every new car I've seen has the one in the center..

qwikz28 10-15-2011 10:52 AM

Al, link us up to the full write up on the Sonic when you do. Actually, I'll ask here: how is the interior noise at highway speed? After living with the Saturn and that being my primary complaint with it, that will be a deal breaker on a new car.

LTb1ow 10-15-2011 12:18 PM

That is a funny looking toy car there.

Blacdout96 10-15-2011 12:49 PM

May I say I do fancy the Sonic....alot. My wife wants a small compact car, and really wants a Mini. As much as I would enjoy that car, the maintenance on them would be a little out of her range given some of the parts I've sold arent cheap. However, I would like to sway her to a sonic if I could. The Yaris is ugly as sin, and even at an entry level price of 12K, I had a hell of a time selling them.

My sister has a Fit, and though there are a lot of pluses about the car, the cabin layout is a bit too much, and the second side windows is bothersom when driving. The Sonic looks great with those mean front lenses, and coming in the base market under 20K is not bad, will certainly open the market and give an alternative choice for new drivers/college kids not looking for a box on wheels or Celica wanna be. I'm just worried it has the fit n finish and road noise like an Aveo. Hopefully the ABS plastic squeeks are next to nill.

No more column shifters in cars. Last one was the Panther cars, and they died last month.
Interior is cool. The IP is very Motorcycle like, looks very similar to the CBR's lay out.

Interior noise is very quiet, probably best in class. Sonic is being built along side the Buick Verano, so it gets some of the spray insulation that is part of "Quiet Tuning". The chief engineer said it adds a bit of weight, but quiets down the car so much. Also, standard alloy wheels dropped dB levels by 3-4 compared to steelies. I will be getting one for review hopefully in a few weeks. This was a nice drive from midtown to upstate new york, back down.

Fit an finish should be very good. They really focused in on Fit and Fiesta. Fit for its sales (considering it is only a hatch) and Fiesta for the fun-to-drive factor. They asked me a lot about the Accent I drove. A LOT about the Accent.

I'm sure it's a bit of a stretch, but when you get that test drive, and if i was free, would you be willing to give me a ride to let me gain an opinion on it? I've been waiting since the Philly auto show for it to come to the showroom so I could test drive one.

BigAls87Z28 10-15-2011 11:44 PM

Sure we could work something out. I'll let you know.

They won't look anything alike.
