New distributor did the trick, but the car stalled on me when I was fixing the idle screw and now wolnt start fml

WildBillyT 05-08-2013 07:36 PM

Starter lugging?

B4C 05-08-2013 07:37 PM

Nope cranks just fine. Oil pressure and coolant temp was good.

BonzoHansen 05-08-2013 07:48 PM

Huh, who'd have guessed that...more than once.

B4C 05-09-2013 01:39 PM

Tried a coil I had laying around, still no start. Have 12 volts at the coil but its not getting any spark. FYI the brand new distributor is an Accel that I had laying around but idk that it would have died that quickly.

WildBillyT 05-09-2013 01:57 PM

Getting fuel?

B4C 05-09-2013 01:59 PM

Yes plenty.

Thank you, anything helpful to say or just here for a laugh? I knew it was good because it was new just didnt figure it would die in 20min of use if that is what happens to be the problem this time. Ran fine once I got the timing set, ran great on the test drive, then just stalled and wolnt start.

He had an Accel dizzy be intermittently bad right out of the box. A module was de-soldering itself when it got hot and then re-soldered itself when it cooled or something like that.

THAT is how you troll someone. But I digress.

So it gets fuel but spins and spins? Is it flooded? Are you getting any spark?

I didnt know that, and I didnt know they were THAT crappy, had no isses at all until it stalled, my GM one was questionable so I used the new one instead. It does flood yes, just spins and spins, no spark at all.

I had an Accel coil go bad after ~130 miles.

Time to start chasing wires I guess.

Im going to try swapping the module with the one off my Nova and see what happens.

The_Bishop 05-09-2013 03:04 PM

Good rule of thumb: If it says Accel on it, don't buy it. If you did, throw it away.

I have all accel stuff on my Nova, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, and coil on a GM dizzy with no issues whatsoever.

Thats exactly whats on the car, I tried an old old old s/c on the trans am with no luck. Im going to swap the module out of my Nova and try that first the accel module looks really really cheap and crappy, car ran good for the 20 min it did run tho.

B4C 05-10-2013 02:00 PM

The accel module fell appart in my hands when I un-bolted it and the module I put in looks like its older then dirt but it says made in usa on it and it works. Go figure, didnt think accels stuff could be that crappy.
