I hate gas prices . Back in 2000-01 , when I moved back up here from florida. I payed $.99/gallon for 87 octane in Ft. Meyers when I left. Payed $40 in gas the whole trip. Given I was driving a 2000 Saturn SC2 at the time. My point is THIS IS RIDICULOUS. 80 GODDAM DOLLARS a week in gas just to get to work and class..... I wish I didnt sell that saturn .....

for those who weren't paying attention, there is no shortage of gasoline. the refineries have had to cut back to avoid a major over-supply, which would make the price nose dive in a hurry.

i still say if the whole country stopped buying gas for one week that would be enough to get them to drop the price. they may be greedy, but they'd know we were serious if we stopped for a week. then, for those of you that took the bus or car-pooled or however you got to wor, you would now have a new way to get to work. you wouldn't have to depend on your car anymore. that would curtail our usage even more and they'd be forced to drop the price to get us to use more. $4.00 a gallon is highway robbery. no one is going to step in on our behalf to put a cap on the price. remember, people like Bush are making money while the price is this high... why would he stop himself from making money?

And how do you think the economy would respond to the country being shut down for just a week? It's not possible. sorry.

Not buying gas for a week is easier saids then done. the problem is they just had a meeting with the top 5 CEO-s of the oil companies a couple weeks ago, and istead of making them do something, they jsut asked them a few questions and let the go on there way... The dems said that you guys should start researching alternative fuels...TO THE OIL COMPANIES, like they would listen, and the Rep's said to start drilling more to get more oil, so either both sides are playing dumb, or they really are. How come Car companies have to be the ones to have a whole set of laws on them for fuel efficiancy, when in reality, theres no shortage of oil, theres no need to make cars go 35 mpg in 2015. Why are nt there any laws on the oil companies, why isnt there any sanctioning group to prevent them to make these prices this rediculously high? its all politics, money talks, and when they make a profit of 90+ billion last quarter, and laughing at everyone driving around, something has to be done, and why isnt the American government listening, whatever happened to to peoples voices? Not getting gas wont do anything, and we always talk about ti, but its only in mumbles, there really needs to be rally's, there really hasto be voices spoken.

Oh and if there was one thing I could ask the presidential candidates right now, I would ask this:

Recently as you know, the price of oil has skyrocketed to unimaginable prices over the past 8 years, and nothign has been done about it, my question is, would you try to mandate a law, or department to monitor oil, or would you allow them to continue what they are doing, and no long answer just fight or no fight, tahts all I want to know.

Forget these I want to cut taxes, they wont, I wantto change America, ok, then get started by working on this oil thing, this IS somethig thatst affecting America as a whole, and God damnit I want to do something about it, I widh we could all go to Washington D.C. and protest. Whos with me? Im ready to go RIGHT NOW to fight for not only F-body owners, but everyone all over the country. from those small businesses whos major source of income was delivering, ot the Airlines and trucking industry, they are the lifeblood of America, and im sick of sitting here and watchign the Next Rockafellers's sit back and rape our country. do they not realize that THEY are the ones ruining our economy?

That was just on the NJTP and Parkway. The rest stops can only change their prices once every week, but private stations can change once every 24 hours.

jin1481 04-25-2008 11:03 AM

take the fight to the gas stations, you want people to stop buying gas, start blowing up gas stations then the companies can just watch their precious gas burn up at a 100% loss. that would teach them something...excuse while i go hug a tree now

jims69camaro 04-25-2008 11:57 AM

i can tell you one thing, violence will do nothing. you go and blow up a gas station then you have every law enorcement office in a 100 mile radius up your ass. all you will do is make them want to hunt you down and arrest you, nothing will happen to the price.

getting people to unite is a real problem, especially with people like Knipps who just sit back, offer nothing of value, and just say "That won't work." instead of saying, that won't work, why not come up with something that will. i still say if the whole country stopped buying gas for a week, then they would have to take notice and drop their prices. imagine all of those companies out there that would have to shut down because their workers didn't show up. it would be mass hysteria on the part of the government to ACT for us, not speak for us, but actually get something done.

i haven't heard anything positive from anyone yet, mostly just "this sucks". while it does, what are you prepared to do about it? slink back behind your monitor and do nothing? continue to pay the price they're asking? just how long do you think you'll be able to afford to go to work with the price north of $4.00 per gallon? how long will you be able to provide for your families with prices so high? those who are single will have some decisions to make, as well, as in what can you afford to do this weekend? you won't be driving, that's for sure.

i am not sure what i will be doing this weekend. of all of the times for them to hike the prices, the beginning of summer has to be the worst. and this weekend, worst of all, because i have committed to going to the club's meeting and i have committed to going to Cops N Rodders. one of those is going to be a no-show, possibly both. i've already committed financially to Cops N Rodders, so i may be able to eek that one out, but it won't be with the camaro. so, yeah, this sucks.

but what are you prepared to do about it?

Knipps 04-25-2008 12:18 PM

Yes jim, I sit back and do nothing seeing as I haven't bought gas since January
I've either walked or taken mass transit to get where I wanted :moon:

haha. "Whoops, I dropped my cigarette."

How about this: We need to force a major player to do something, say, Exxon/Mobil. In order to force them to do something we need to boycott them. Simple yet effective. Send an email to Exxon/Mobil explaining that you are no longer going to purchase their products until something is done about the price situation. Once they stop making money they will get the picture. Imagine if we could get even 50% of the country to do this?

BonzoHansen 04-25-2008 02:02 PM

It isn't the gas station owners fault either. Their margin is getting squeezed too.

Several days ago I posted a thread(#27)in which I suggested an idea that I had seen on the internet about EXXON/MOBIL/LUKOIL. I was told it was a dumb idea and that it would never work. That is the attitude that the gas companies are loving! I also like "YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY". Play my ass, I need to go to work and I can't crawl there and everyday the gas companies are taking more and more out of my pay, but I can't get a raise to equal out my loss. LUKOIL was just in the Star-Ledger with lines at their pumps because yesterday was the last day of CHEAP FUEL PRICES @ $3.17 a gal., and now it is $3.39 a gal. Next week at this time they will AGAIN BE THE CHEAP FUEL IN TOWN until the next increase. GET THE IDEA, THERE IS NO PAY TO PLAY, ONLY FORK IT UP OR YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK!!!!

while i applaud your efforts at curtailing your personal gasoline usage, i do not appreciate your attitude sometimes. if everyone does what you've been doing since january, then they would have to take notice was my point. tell me it's not true.

now, getting people united is an altogether different story. i can't even get the people in this thread to understand that there is no gasoline shortage. how would i go about uniting millions to boycott gasoline altogether for one week? and most people have sick days, so it's not like they'd be missing out on pay that week. i can't think of a single reason not to do it. so some industries would be shut down for a week... and perhaps some conveniences would become a little more challenging. i'd be willing to do it, no matter how much it hurt me. the point is, the oil companies would not be able to ignore it.

Boycotting for one week doesn't bother them. They know you will have to buy it eventually. If you don't get today, you will get it tomorrow. They know you have to have it. That is why I suggested picking one company and boycotting them. We have to buy fuel, it is inevitable. If for nothing else we have to get to work. If all of a sudden a companies profits are cut in half, they will do something. I really think it would work. Just don't buy fuel from one company. We would have to find all brand names from a particular company and make sure not to buy from them. It may take a while, but they will get the message. The key is to send them an email to state why you are doing it.

mudjnky 04-25-2008 07:22 PM

Does anyone know what brands Exxon sells under?

WildBillyT 04-25-2008 08:23 PM

We tried allowing political threads. Everybody cocked it up. Do not drag politics into this further.

nj96z28 04-25-2008 09:13 PM

pulled into the gulf (or citgo) across from pathmark in Bergenfield to fill up 93. The guy goes Ah, Sir its 4.65 a gallon. I nearly broke my neck trying to see if he was playing. Needless to say I pulled right outta there.

Blacdout96 04-25-2008 10:51 PM

Uh I didnt drag politics into this thank you very much ,I was saying not to drag it in.

JerzLT1 04-25-2008 11:07 PM

i paid $9 a gallon for Race gas last tuesday, quicherbitchin. my bills dont allow me to stop driving for a week. and how many companies will allow every employee to not work for a week? theres families that NEED the income and theres parents that cant get more then a part time job and dont have vacation time. there no possible way to get that many people to stop driving. no theres no oil shortage but they can charge whatever they want because they CAN.

btw i drive around 70 miles a day for work and yes gas prices kill me driving an A4 with 3.73s but theres nothing i can do about it. ill be in the sand box in a month anyway.

Slo86Bird 04-25-2008 11:17 PM

i honestly dont even look at prices. i just put gas in and go..lol
