Sorry Al, I don't like that brown interior...... On MB's we have designo interiors (Espresso Edition) that have a similar color..... and I dislike them also

BigAls87Z28 04-30-2008 03:44 PM

Sure, but not everyone wants a CTS or a MB or a BMW.
LTZ's can now also be had with the 2.4 and 6spd auto. 6spd auto will be available for all trims sans LS, standard for LTZ.
The Malibu, from where it has come from to where it is now, is stunning for a family sedan.

Chevy offers several colors. Brick/Ebony is only available in LTZ, and in person it looks AWESOME!! My neighbor and the Tech I work with both have LTZ's with this interior...its hotness.

Here are the other colors.

There are a couple more variations, but there are a lot of choices to pick from.

and look at that IP..oooooo

*= If you do not count the 60's.

BigAls87Z28 04-30-2008 03:52 PM

The 60's it was a trim option, and a Malibu then is different then Malibu now. Big block and a 4spd doesnt make it better. The Malibu has come along way from the old N-Body of the mid 90's, and light years away from the G body based Malibu's of the late 70's and early early 80's.

Yes, I know it's a trim option. It is still the origin of the name at GM. A big block and a 4 speed makes damn near anything better in terms of enjoyment.

Truthfully, this new Malibu is definetly a big step forward. The past iterations were pretty nondescript. It was basically a GM Taurus. I know, my wife drives an '02 V6 LS. I'd rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10. This new one (at least the higher trim options) look pretty decent.

BigAls87Z28 04-30-2008 04:32 PM

You are being really generious or you keep up on the 02.
Id vote that my 04 is about a 7. Its a solid car, just not the hottest ride on the block. Malibu is a good 9. It has its shortcomings, such as lack of a screen based navigation system, but thats about it.
252hp, 6spd auto with paddel shifters, two tone leather interior, and with teh new 2.4/6spd powertrain combo will be the best in its class for gas milage. The Tech I work with says his wife looooves it. The car has a very nice and upscale look to it, especially in LTZ trim.

and regardless of whether or not certain people in this thread like the styling of the malibu, the avenger is still a terrible car. why won't people listen to me?

vitals- the new civic is a great car, Chrysler is dead. there is no comparison.

79CamaroDiva 04-30-2008 05:30 PM

i'm not sure where you're all getting the idea that its a terrible car? I just looked at Edmunds, who I feel is unbiased on reviews, and both the editor and the consumer reviews are good. A lot of people agree that the Interior is too cheap looking, and the 4 cyl is under powered, but other than that, nothing as terrible as you're GM Fan Boi's are saying

Quite simply, the four-cylinder Avenger will be fine for the rigors of the commute or small-family duty, but unless you hold a special place in your heart for the styling cues shared with the larger Charger, you owe it to yourself to check out the competition. And for those who want to stick with a Big Three brand in this class, we'd recommend the four-cylinder Ford Fusion for those who appreciate sharp handling, or the base Chevy Malibu for those who lean toward ride and refinement.
melissa there are far better cars in teh segment

I want to know when you test drove the car

touche, but the reviews and general public buying trends don't leave room to believe any other way. how could chrysler be in such trouble with the best midsizer on teh market? truth is that it doesn't. i read alot of carlounge material and hear what they say. thats an unbiased forum, and its rental car quality for rental car prices. i'd rather put my money elsewhere. until i find a good review of the car, i'll stick to my first instinct.

I didn't say it was bad, i just wouldn't prefer it. After i get out of college next year it will be on the list, however it will be on the bottom along with scion tc. Unless i get a ****** job than it will get back to the top

Yes, that brown interior blows. But the other ones look nicer.

I've driven & worked on enough small chryslers to know I never want one. They are all just modified Aries K-cars. Really only the now dead Neon was kind of different. Tinny & cheap, chintzy interiors. I'm not pulling an Al here and pushing GMs, I just think for the $$ there are cars that offer a better driving experience.

But Diva you do what you like, this is America!

JerzyIroc 04-30-2008 08:03 PM

i test drove an avenger and im with mel they're nice. they do look different, i turn my head everytime i see it. i love the way they look honestly though i can see what people mean by a little wierd. the interior isnt too bad. they ride good but it is slow as balls. overall i think they're good. definatly better than the old ones. BUT, i also have to say the malibu is just leagues ahead of it. i personally love the exterior, obviously some dont. but if you compare everything else to every other car in its segment its not even close. its miles ahead of any car in its segment import or domestic in terms of interior. flat out there is no interior nicer. ive been in the new camry (friend just bought one a few weeks ago) ive been in the new accord (uncle has one) test drove the avenger and went inside the altima during the auto show. and again none have a nicer interior. the ride in the malibu is simply awesome. its pretty damn quick too. the brakes are great. comfortable as hell. Malibu definatly ftw. ive alwys loved gm. but now i think any Gm fan finally has some cars to brag about and be proud of.

Mike 04-30-2008 10:45 PM

i love how everyone on here is talking about the interiors and most of them have 4th gens....

al...i bet the malibu would be even better if it didnt have to deal with your extra weight hanging from its balls

 nice post.

BigAls87Z28 05-01-2008 11:33 AM

Im sure it would Mike, Im sure it would.

JL8Jeff 05-01-2008 12:41 PM

I like the looks of the Avenger but I know I would never buy a Chrysler/Dodge. I've seen my mom have problems with every Dodge she has had and when I worked for DOT the Dodge vans were lucky if they started and ran 5 days in a row. If it was raining, then forget it.

unstable bob gable 05-02-2008 12:45 AM

Dodge Neons FTMFW!!!!

Mike 05-02-2008 09:41 AM

quick question for all the naysayers. how many have driven the car? how many have gone to the dealer and sat in one?

melissa isnt dumb, she wont buy a piece of crap car. but all this hate from people that dont have personal experience reeks of fanboy crap. i say, go test drive one, if the car is as much of a piece of junk as this thread would make you believe....drive back to the dealer, get back in the camaro, and LEAVE ...... then test drive the malibu, see if the "awesomeness" of the car makes you overlook the fact that it looks blah, if not, leave

you could always wait on the v6 models of the camaro or challenger

its also ignorant to think that every bad review of the car is wrong and that Chrysler has overcome their reliability issues with this one car. i, for one, like melissa and don't want her making any unfavorable financial decisions, especially out of college. and trust me, i'm far from a GM fanboy. i spend most of my time on thecarlounge.com which is run by a vw site. i'm a car enthusiast, not a gm enthusiast. but i do like the malibu....

BigAls87Z28 05-02-2008 10:06 AM

Drove the Malibu, drove the Avenger, drove the Sebring, drove the Fusion...
Also drove a new Accord and Camry.
Avenger is very cheap inside, and the overall drive is lackluster. V6 is as powerful as the average 4 cyl in this segment.
The only advantages the Avenger has over the Malibu is DVD navigation screen and MyGig 30 gig hard drive as options. 09 Malibu has OnStar standard with turn by turn directions as well as all othe other gear free for one year. It also Bluetooth connectivity combined with the OnStar. USB and Aux inputs for MP3/iPod as well in the face of the radio.
Malibu rides a lot nicer then pretty much any car in its class. Thats from reviews in car rags to people I know that have driven it to me.

Fusion has all that junk standard, as well as SYNC.

the fusion is a very well liked car, its handling is praised as being of the best in the segment. and the car will be even more attractive with the new drivetrains next year and the complete redesign coming shortly after
