As far as technology sharing, if VW is owned by Porsche then who's to say that the RWD/AWD/TT stuff didn't go from Porsche straight to Audi?

I know what you are trying to say, and I pretty much agree. They are a whole different animal car wise, but they are still part of the VW. People here are trying to compare ENTIRE GM line up vs purely VW line up. Well VW is more than just VW cars. They own other "companies" just like GM does. So I do not think it's fair to compare GM to VW line up. It's either GM vs VW group, or Chevy/Saturn/Caddy etc vs VW line up. Maybe it's just me but that seems fair.

Porsche owns 35% of VW, although they are a major power when it comes to voting they are not the owner.

I was referring to the fact that they, VW, have not made any kind of sports car, or in general a car worth going out of your way to own(not worth owning), not a car you buy because you need it or because its a good car. And yes i am aware some people may not like my opinions, thats why i dont tout them off as facts

Audi is VW... at least 99.14%. Just like Caddy, Saturn, Chevy is a product of GM.

Blacdout96 04-20-2009 11:14 AM

Porsche and Audi have been going hand in hand with development for decades. They were the builders of the 917/30 can am cars back in the 70's that developed as much as 1100-1200hp.

As for Porsche owning 35%, isnt it odd that Porsche pulled out of Le Mans (1998) and Audi picked up where Porsche left off?

anyway, To me Volkwagen is a compny that can be comparable to Saturns. they arent uber expensive, aimed at a younger, or economic caring person. I too have heard that VW is a pick n choose kind of car, you might get a good one, or you'll get one with a lot of issues. To say though that VW is superiour to all of anything considered american, let alone a muscle car is absolutely absurd, but whatever, if thats what allows him to sleep at night, let him think that.

sweetbmxrider 04-20-2009 11:24 AM

show me a german pickup truck besides that lambo truck. thats what a workin americana man needs! a pickumup truck

4thGenJunkie 04-20-2009 11:45 AM

VW made a truck but it sucked major monkey nuts what they need is a good ol Silverado 3500 i think that would just straight crush every vw

BigAls87Z28 04-20-2009 10:00 PM

Yes, you can sure find some really great cars in VW AG's line up.
But the brand VW doesnt have a whole bunch. The CC is nice, the GTI is cool, but the rest of the cars are just nice cars, tend to be pricy and are a pita to work on.
Now, expand out of VW brand and into Audi, and I cant find a car I WOULDNT want.
Lambo, Bugatti and Porsche are pretty exclusive brands, where only the Bugatti shares any noticable parts from the mother ship, the W16 quad turbo engine. Everything else is pretty much left off.

3 years ago, GM owned a large chunk of Fiat, which owns Alfa and Ferrari. Not to mention a controling interset in Fuji Heavy Industries which owns Subaru.

VW is a german brand, and like everything German they execute things well. Its the way and how they do it thas the problem. Usually with 3x more stuff, 2x more complicated, and 5x likely to break down.

And thats how this..

Beat this

At least quality wise...
Now im not going to say that the Cobalt is a better car then the Golf, no way. But the Astra, at least the REAL Euro one, is. The one we get/got was a bit neuterd and stripped of a the fun things.

BigAls87Z28 04-20-2009 10:01 PM

Also, Im sure that if we wanted to really get into GM's whole world line up, with all its brands, we can sure find a decent amount of cars your average man would want.

fire95bird 04-20-2009 11:17 PM

Lmfao nice Al

4thGenJunkie 04-21-2009 10:28 AM

i think thats by far the best post ever..... therefore ending all sensible argument that anyone could have for VW

jims69camaro 04-21-2009 04:23 PM

well, i stand corrected. google FTW, and VW to outsell toyoda? doubtful. the oyabun will be up all night coming up with ways to solve that problem. if only we could get the big 3 (2 1/2?) back to pwning all. again, doubtful. but that doesn't mean they make shi++y cars, either. i would hop into any american car before i would be caught dead in a VW. even a cavalier (does the corsica count? 4 door cavalier...)

and add one to the list of previous VW owners that will never own another one in this lifetime or the next.

VW did make a pickup. It is actually a unibody rabbit with a bed. Kinda the equivalent to an el camino without v-8 power. Our parts truck is one with an old gti motor shoved in it. POS truck

BigAls87Z28 04-21-2009 10:39 PM

Thats a sad ass parts truck...
VW is actually currently getting a new Unibody truck ready, like the Ridgeline. There are shots of it on the Ring recently.

CamaroJoe1987 04-21-2009 11:53 PM

look, your friend is just being ignorant, he is just tryin to bust your balls to see wat kind of reaction he can get out of you, ppl have done it to me, all you gotta do is shrug it off like nothing and just tell him, "look man, keep sayin what you want, your OPINION isnt going to affect mine and i have heard worse **** out of better ppl, It's wat i prefer in a car, and a vw is obviously wat you porefer, its a stupid topic that you should learn to drop."

p.s.- the part where you say "ive heard worse **** by better ppl" will really get him after you give it time to sink in

12secondv6 04-22-2009 07:17 AM

So, the arguement is a fan boy vs. fan boy........ and this thread is fan boy vs. fan boy vs. fan boy vs. fan boy

BTW, neons rule!

Frosty 04-22-2009 07:30 AM

I've been around enough VW's to know they're flaming pieces of crap....you couldn't pay me to own one. Frequent trips to the dealer for off the wall electrical gremlins...no thanks.

It seems like they're hit or miss....mainly miss with the people I know. I worked with 4 of these fanboi's....every one seemed like your friend...VW rocks...everything else is crap....every single one tried gunning for the 'vette with their "crazy modded" Vdubs. It's a shame none of the 4 stayed together long enough to prove how much power those mods gave them. EVERY one had issues. Now granted, they could've been hack job mods but still. Even my friend's stock '03 Jetta was been in the dealer 4 separate times for electrical issues, 50K miles and 4 trips for warranty work...no thanks. My lawyer's Passat has 175K trouble free(for the most part) miles on it. The workers must have been paying attention the day that one was built, lol.

I guess since it's German it must be a great car or something...I'm still failing to see what's so great about them. I love the new Audi's but I'd be scared to own one unless I had a warranty that covered everything.

You say that like GM cars, or American cars in general don't ever break down.

sweetbmxrider 04-22-2009 07:42 AM

 Where did I say American cars don't break down anywhere in that post? The thread was about how the OP's friend(s) thinking that VW's are God's gift to the auto industry. I threw my opinion in saying that I think they're huge pieces of crap(I didn't even get into how much of a mess they are after an accident).

LTb1ow 04-22-2009 10:35 AM

Saturn FTW, runs great, gets 20mpg, even after running for ~100 miles with no oil. Beat that VW.

There's no need to get your panties all twisted up. I simply pointed out that your argument was one sided, in turn fanboy like - only for the other side.

On a totally unrelated, to you, note I find it funny how few months ago we had a thread about GM, and how they "sucked" - well their quality. And people were saying how they have changed from the past and now their quality if top notch, and they should be given another chance. Ahh, bias - gotta love it

My panties aren't in a bunch, I just had no idea where you were coming from. I didn't even mention GM or any other domestic company so I wasn't being a fanboy...I was merely pointing out that I think VW's are pieces of crap...which ironically was on topic. :D. I didn't know that if I attack one car company I must also mention a GM product....I didn't get that memo. :moon::mrgreen:8-)
