Here are your comments: 1.If you want the better game system now then get a Xbox but in the long run you will regret not getting a PS3. Xbox didn't support HDMI on all consoles until recently which was something the PS3 had on launch and continues to offer. The PS3's new consoles have either gotten smaller and/or increased HD space from launch. Xbox chooses to either enhance the entire console (need to buy a new one...) or offer peripherals which add to the total system cost. I've had the same PS3 since new and I've needed nothing more than install an update here and there (no mine wasn't bricked), no need to buy a new console or a new peripheral. 2.If you want the better online play then get a xbox. If you like to play online then Xbox is easier to use but I've played online plenty of times with my PS3 and haven't had any problems. Don't let the comments on PS3 online play give you the impression that I can't find a friend or have limited online playing features. 3. If you want the system with more games then get a Xbox. Subjective to the games you WANT to play. 4. reliability of the xbox sucks. It does... Sure PS3's have had failures like any other mass produced electronic piece of equipment but its not even close to the numbers of the Xbox. Looking at the total number of failures compared to the number of units sold isn't how you should look at it. Look at the failure rate figures. Failure Rate: Xbox - 54.2% !!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS3 - 10.6% Wii - 6.8% The fun thing about stats is there is always a way to paint a brighter picture depending upon the data you decided to show. You mentioned the PS3 sales worldwide are lagging by 10 million but the Xbox was released a year before the PS3. First, this is incorrect and the more important fact is sales of the PS3 are clearly out pacing sales of the Xbox. True, overall Xbox sales are still greater than PS3 but this gap is closing quickly....even with it's 1 year head start and lower pricing. These are world wide figures and Japan AND Europe prefer the PS3 over the Xbox. Why is this important? No, not for me to make a choice on the console that is best for me, but we all know having a global market is the key to success. The more sales of PS3's you see, the more support, development money will potentially be spent by game developers and product supporters. http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/r...OY191209-1.jpg Regarding the comment about the same supporting comments used by the PS3 nutswingers, I am seeing similar comments from the Xbox crew. - Microsoft's warranty covers issues with the RROD.....OK so you buy a console with major known reliability issues but don't care because it's under warranty? That's ridiculous and a major hassle IMO. Would you buy a car that had major engine issues but didn't care because it had a 100k mile warranty? Yea I didn't think so. - HD DVD's, this was mentioned and I can't believe that was even a supporting argument for the Xbox. This is a dead format plain and simple. It failed miserably so my condolences to those who have these units and have a limited title range of 300 movies. - Blu-Ray player built into the PS3. Sure you can go pickup a $120 player but like anything else, you get what you pay for. The PS3 player is very robust and you won't be able to update a standalone player. Plus, adding another device adds a remote in the controller collection we all have (unless you purchase a nice Harmony remote which I have and love). Again, I can care less who owns what console. I enjoy my PS3 and others enjoy their Xbox. Call me a PS3 fanboy all you want, it does what I need it to do and I haven't been swayed enough by a game or feature of the Xbox to buy one. All I am seeing are weak one sided arguments. I guess COD isn't the same without a RROD. |
I got my Elite when it 1st came out in 2007 and it has a HDMI port! You hear people bitch about the RROD but at least it is covered under warrenty. Every other week there seems to be a post about someones PS3 crapping out on them and they have to shell out 150-200 dollars for sony to fix it. Hell Updates on the PS3 have fried systems. I would rather have a system that doesnt break at all but I already had a PS3 break on me and had to purchase a used one from EB games with there stupid 40.00 extended warrenty. My Elite is still alive and kicking without an issue and I recently sold my Feb 06 model Xbox that is still working fine. Its a piece of mind to know that you have a warrenty and wont have to worry about it if the system breaks. I had the confidence in my 1st PS3 and spent the 500.00 on it without purchasing a extended warrenty and 4 months later it broke and the factory 90 day warrenty was up!
as far as the PS3 coming with everything already installed and the Xbox you have to addon that is the point. The Xbox is made for everyone. You choose what you want to have on it. If you want a 20,60,120,240, or no hd you choose, if you want wireless you choose, if you wanted the HD Dvd player you bought it for extra. This is how they make the xbox cheaper then the PS3 and how a person who doesnt care about all the extra B/S and just wants to be a gamer can afford it. And as far as the car buying comparison you gave. You bought a 08 Pontiac and have a F-body.. If you were so worried about reliability why not buy a Honda? Instead you buy a brand new car from a company that is extinct a year later!! Kudos on that info you found. Must have taken sometime to find that. I just googled Next gen and got this website. http://nexgenwars.com/ but according to Wikapedia the PS has sold 27 million world wide and the 360 34 million world wide as of OCT 09. You are a devoted PS3 owner. I am not. Sony has screwed me over once to many times with the PS3, hell even with my old TV. And as far as this thread goes it sounded like he wanted the best racing game out there and that happens to be on Xbox. Nobody is saying that you cant play online with the PSN. I just hate not being able to invite friends to play games while I am playing the game or like in GT5 Pro not being able to setup races with my friends or just not being able to find my friends to race them. I also hate having to back out of games to do ****. The PSN is just so far behind it seems. Its like whenever XBL gets a new update it takes a year for the PSN to catch back up but then it is to late and XBL is out with new features. And as far as the HD DVD/BR thing I love them both. I dont buy BR's because I have Netflix and I would rather buy the Matrix Trilogy on HD DVD for 10.00 then on BR for 80.00 while they both have the great picture/video quality. I was actually happy when they quit the HD DVD format because the price of those dvd's dropped by like 95%. I own maybe 10 BR movies and over 100 HDDVD's and probably spent close to the same money on those 10 BR movies that I did on the 100 HDDVD's Well let me get back to some Forza 3. I am going to take my 02 black WS6 and do a nice motor swap in it. Its so nice having a game with you exact car you drive in real life in the game. especially when it is snowing out or just crappy weather like it is today. A friend of mine on XBL has the GTA and is suppose to be pretty quick. I setup a race for tonight so I hope he shows. This is all in Forza 3 of course and this friend also has a LSX turbo 88 GTA in real life. So cool. I hope my Forza WS6 can take him because my real WS6 cant touch him.. |

i bought my xb360 when ps3 was retardedly expensive. im pretty happy with it. i had the rrod once and after it got fixed for free, im having some problems with it reading the disc. i need to send it out again i guess
as far as the gt5vs forza 3 thing goes, they probably wanted to wait till forza 3 was out so they can see what theyre dealing with and try to top it. but then again, it always seemed like they took forever releasing the gt games |

Yay for another bitchfest!
Edit* Slow-V6 why don't you learn how to use multi quote. It was put on this website for a reason. |
blackbird..thanks for all of the stats. I think I'm going to go on a hunt for a couple of a days and see where I can get a 120gb PS3. Seems with the holiday that they all sold out...yet I can still go out and buy a xbox arcade or elite without a problem...ut-oh:lol:

" edit" 2 games. It doesnt like Uncharted 2 for some reason. It wont play the game. The disc is fine so I have no Idea. I was going to call sony about it but dont really feel like dealing with them again about a PS3 and I havent played a game on it for a month or so. |
blackbird.....final fantasy is on the xbox now too. its no longer a sony exclusive...they lost the squaresoft exlusivity with this generation

I'm sure those original MS customers who bought the first Xbox 360's liked that their consoles did not come with a HDMI.....no biggie, just go buy another system or an adapter. When I got my PS3 (First gen), it came with a 1 year warranty. I'm not sure how you got screwed on a 90 day warranty. I'll trust that you spoke to people regarding this but all of these carried a one year IIRC. I only know this because the extended warranties were useless in the first year since it was covered by Sony for manufacturing defects. Buy a 3-year from XYZ retail outlet, they tell you to call Sony if it's within the first year but they will cover any extra cost for parts/service to fix it. This data was not hard to find and took me all of 2 minutes doing the proper google searching. You do know a lot of info on Wikipedia can be modified openly right? Of course you will hear about those that their PS3 s^&t the bed. Like anything else, you hear more of the negative than than positive. No one posts on an open forum "PS3 still running...Woohoo, thank you Sony!". Regardless, the failure rates are no joke. I don't wish the RROD on anyone but it just seems like its a matter of time. MS was not even considering fixing this issue but were "persuaded" by a large class action lawsuit due to the rampant failures. That's a black eye that will take quite a while to recover from. Variety in the ability to purchase a next gen console is certainly nice but in the end, you are probably going to spend the money for the things you decided not to purchase up front. Wireless should be included in all systems, unless you love running super long ethernet cables all over your house. If your router lives in your play room, then that's great but I doubt that's the norm. What extra BS is included in the PS3? A blu-ray player...oh wait I'll just go buy a separate stand alone unit for at least a hundred bucks. Is the failure rate of my Pontiac G8 or Firebird as high as an Xbox 360? Nope, both are still running and neither have given me any major problems (stock original opti in the Bird too LOL...oh wait, maybe it won't start now). We are not talking blown engines and chassis' splitting in two. If this was the case, then you can best believe I wouldn't have purchased either of these cars. GM would have even more problems if over 50% of their cars in the past 3 years decided to suffer catastrophic failure. You are taking my reference to car purchasing too far to make it a relevant argument. Why does it make sense to compare a sports car to a economy car? Reliability certainly is important so based on the facts, we should all be playing Nintendo Wii's and looking at the sales figures, maybe we already own one of them too. Reasonably speaking, a purchase of a PS3 is a much more sound decision from a reliability standpoint than the Xbox 360. You don't have a leg to stand on. I can invite friends to games while in-game, done this on resistance and burnout. Have you tried simply tapping the middle OS button on the controller and it will bring you back to the menu without jumping out of the game. For a FREE service, I do not have any issues with it. So all of the great movies worth watching were created during the time of HD DVD? Sigh....I'm glad you enjoy your HD DVD's at a reduced pricing but this should look good next to that BETA player you have in the basement. Enjoy your Forza, I'm sure its a great game but it's not a reason for me to spend the money on a Xbox 360. Does everyone buy a console for one game? I'm sure you didn't so it still comes down to which games I want to play. I can wait until GT5 comes out and sure it won't be perfect and it will probably happen in 2027, but that's why I like other games on the PS3 and can play those. Quote:

By the way, multi-quote FTW. |
as for buying my system. i was on the fence about mine as well. forza 3 was a big deciding factor in buying my xbox. until mw2 came out forza was my only game.

I must admit i am a ps3 fan but i bought my son xbox for christmas and the graffix are awesome... and that forza motorsport 3 is sick.

you do know anyone can write stuff up on wiki right? PSN could be as good as XBL, but sony wants to have "free gaming online", which in turn leads to less features i have both, im not a big gamer, i prob play them each once a week. if there is a game im going to play multiplayer, i buy it for xbox, if im just going to play single player, i buy it for the ps3. they both have their problems, i just hate the 360 fan boys who think its the best thing out there. from a value stand point, there is no argument that the ps3 is the better value in the short and long term. and no im not a ps3 fanboy, i actually really dont like the controller lol. im havin fun with this thread  |
i actually heard that in like 2007-2008 xbox released a lower voltage version of their xboxes. this is confirmed by the lower voltage rating on the back of my xbox. supposedly these versions have a less than 10 percent rrod rate. not bad imo.
if my xbox rrod then ill send it in and have it serviced...im not so hard up for video games that i cant deal for a few weeks without a console. so thats no big deal to me either. as for the dont move the system while its on.....i thought that was pretty much any system. i used to have a ps2 on a vertical stand when it first came out...my son knocked it over once while i was playing...the laser also burnt a ring into that disc....does it make the ps2 any less of an awesome system when it was out??? nope not at all. ps3 has a few cool features....blu ray is pointless for me, i still have a standard def 27'' tv from the early/mid 90s. i already have like 3 dvd players in my house, not including my computer. built in wireless is cool, again not a big deal for me as i have a 75 ft ethernet cable ran throughout my house  because i dont know how to hook up a wireless anything. although that game uncharted looks cool for ps3....but tomb raider works just the same for me  |
I did a update on Thursday for the newer update that came out in September on the PS3. After I did this it started out that I couldnt play Uncharted 2 ( as stated yesterday). I am trying to sell the PS3 because we got a BR player from my Dad for Christmas but today the PS3 wont play any BR Movies at all. It does play regular DVD's but I cant play any PS3 games or BR movies. I called up Sony ( again) and they told me that the Update wouldnt cause the disc read errors and that it is more likely a dirty Laser head on the dvd drive. They said since I dont play it that much that it is a common cause or this. They want me to send it in for service.I found instructions on opening up the PS3 and cleaning the lens or laser head but I am a little uneasy about doing so. Has anyone had this happen to them? If so is it a simple process to clean or not? I did the fan cleaning already on it and that didnt help out at all. The error code is 80010514.

Okay now it doesnt even spin up the disc drive. I put a disc in and nothing. It doesnt even show up on the dashboard that there is a disc in the system. Another thing is my systems serial number doesnt pull up in sonys system. I guess its because I bought it used at Gamestop. Maybe I was suppose to register the system? I dont know. This is getting really old. Why did I do that update? everything was working great last weekend on it then I decide to do the stupid update ( which I havent updated in 8 months) and now it wont play anything and I will have to send it in to get serviced ( whatever that means).
My xbox also threw a 4 red ring error this morning. I figured it out that it was because I hit the power button without having the HDMI pluged into the TV. I moved to TV out of the way to get the PS3 cables out and unplugged the HDMI cable for the Xbox in doing so. |
Slow- just stop the argument already lol. I returned the 360 yesterday and now am on the hunt for a ps3 since you can't find them anywhere!

There really isnt a argument. You polled what system to get and got your answer and are changing your mind. Why even make a poll if you are not going to use it in your decisions. You are a nets fans so that might explain it!! J/K Good luck with your PS3 and hope you have better luck then I have. |
ya we sold out of 120gb ps3's at my store, have 3 250gb's left
|
FYI if you dont play many video games, why waste your money on a new video game console and expensive games when you have a car that can use mods???
