The only difference between men and boys are the size of their toys.
He who dies with the most toys wins!

Now as far as my XMod....it's in progress. Â*67 Camaro body with a Stage 2 drag motor (red pinion). Â*Installed the AWD kit last night. Â*Lithium Ion batteries on order. Â*I want to paint the body yellow with black SS stripes. Â*Eventually I want to get the V2 board and a larger motor. Â*Also maybe the tight turn kit and some better bearings. Â*Damn money pit toys! Â*

foff667 01-10-2005 02:44 PM

im not telling my secrets 8)

HardcoreZ28 01-10-2005 03:04 PM

Hey Bill do you have a bearing kit yet? Â*I'm thinking I'm going to need one ASAP. Â*Apparently with Lithium Ion batteries the stock ones melt pretty quickly.

I want to do the steering upgrade soon too cause I think it should turn a lot tighter than it does.

yah the steering sucks and with awd it seriously understeers at speed...i need to get another bearing kit at some point or at least transfer my bearings over from the std front end.

HardcoreZ28 01-10-2005 03:10 PM

The standard front bearings are the same right? You're just using them as a temporary fix?

foff667 01-10-2005 03:14 PM

naw i bought a bearing kit and installed it...but the awd comes with the plastic bearings...i never swapped them over to the awd front end when i was doing that swap...i want to have some extras anywayz just in case.

HardcoreZ28 01-10-2005 03:33 PM

Oh ok I gotcha now. So what bodystyle are you running anyway? And do you use the grease on your gears? I'm afraid I'll pick up too much debris and kill the plastic. :?

yah your not supposed to grease them if your running outside or on rugs and stuff as too much dirt will get in there...corvette body...but once i go to lith I'll have to change...i think im gonna go to a civic body with some 20's all around

HardcoreZ28 01-10-2005 05:27 PM

You can't fit the lith batteries under the vette body? I haven't seen that anywhere yet. I like the Vette body kit. I almost regret not getting that instead of the Camaro, but I'm a sucker for first gens.

I'm gonna have to keep an eye on my stock bearings when I get my lithiums this week. Maybe I'll order the wide base bearings next week after I get paid.

some of the kits you can but i plan on just getting the quick kit...as its easier and idiot proof so it should work well for me...i plan on getting the wide base ones as well.

HardcoreZ28 01-12-2005 08:20 AM

Hey here's a good question.....
I read that if you run lithium ion batteries with AWD it will eat up the plastic ball gear that comes with the AWD kit. What alternative is there to upgrade? I couldn't find an aluminum or billet gear. Did I miss it somewhere?

foff667 01-12-2005 08:43 AM

im not sure if there is one yet maybe at some point.

HardcoreZ28 01-12-2005 09:56 AM

Well that sucks. Makes me feel like I wasted my money on the AWD setup. Maybe if I run a gear for top speed instead of torque right now it won't chew itself up too quickly?

foff667 01-12-2005 10:21 AM

i would just all the other parts that are out there that have to do with moving parts so you dont chew them up and not worry about it too much.

HardcoreZ28 01-12-2005 10:33 AM

Hahah yeah cause I'm made of money right? I'm going to upgrade my bearings soon for sure. If they come out with a gear for the AWD I'll get it. I also like the billiet steering knuckles and aluminum steering cups for the front.

Damn you guys for getting me interested in this!

Carbonfiber parts would be nice.

foff667 01-12-2005 10:11 PM

my carbon shafts came today :)

Fasterthanyou 01-13-2005 07:37 AM

They need to make CF chassis, suspension parts, bodyshell, and flextures to replace the springs. Those things could be SO light if I got a hold of one. Since a CF chassis would be crazy you could make one out of natures composite... wood. Balsa wood has been used in model aircrafts for weight and strength for years. Even the corvettes use Balsa wood in their construction  .
A trick to lightening the plastic is to use a hotwire. A soldering iron with a paperclip in the end works well. A hotwire is a lot easier to control than a dremel.
Does HD or Lowes sell really small plastic screws  .
Last tip for now; why do you need to have your windows rolled up :)
