Cars are classified by thier size into different catagories dependent on the wheelbase(distance from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel) Camaros and Firebirds are "F" Bodies, Vettes are "X" Bodies etc. The thing your Dad probably loved was the enjoyment of cruising in a car that not everyone has and not being bothered by the complexity of todays cars(sensors, airbags, emission controls)

Savage_Messiah 03-03-2007 09:46 PM

.... vettes are Y bodies.... and the F body was AFAIK relating to the "body by Fisher" tags on the 1st gens...

welcome to the site, good to see a female interested enough to learn about cars. You should get one whenever you can you will not regret it

Kasey, Fisher has nothing to do with F in Fbody

Anyway, welcome back to the club!

What draws men and women to Camaros, or cars in general? Well, it could be anything. Some people touched on it, but there is no discriptive word or words that can explain it. Its like being in love. Its a feeling, an emotion, something inside you that just wants to be in one, whatever it is. Some people find that feeling of handbuilt craftsmanship in classic cars from the 20's and 30's, some people like the post war 40's and 50's cars, and a big part, especialy now that the Baby Boomers rule the world, love the cars that they grew up with, the 60's and 70's era Muscle Cars. Now, a lot of us are not old enough to have lived through it, but just this general love for the cars that we own lives down deep inside us. Sometimes its passed down, sometimes it skips a generation. Some people just dont care about cars, but there love is for something else. Our love is for these Fbodies. While sometimes it tests our nerves, we always have this love for them. We love every ounce of it, from looking at them, to driving them, racing them, working on them, and talking about them, we just love these cars.
While it is associated with guys, girls do love cars too. Memories of you in your fathers car might have spawned some internal thing for them as it did in many of us, it might not just click with you. Im sure you have something you like doing. Everyone has a thing that we enjoy doing, our things are cars and fbodies.
Now, you dont HAVE to like cars cause your father did, so dont be worried or confused why you dont have this same feeling.
