I have a lovely poly trans mount sitting in my garage.

|
Just do a poly trans mount for now.

So sayeth the reasonable man. I will. Was about to order one off of WS6Store, but decided I'm just going to break into LTb1ow's house and steal the one in the picture above. Then I can look at it all I want.

So, after consulting with a few people, I was certain that the dryer from LS1 car would mount right up to the [EVAP box?] of the '95 V6. However, now that we've neared the end of the build and have the motor & dash in, I found that the AC dryer won't reach the fitting coming off of the [EVAP box?], and upon comparing the old & new ones, they're clearly different.
Anyone know what the best way of going about swapping this is? Does the dash need to be pulled, or does it come out through the engine bay side of the firewall (please say engine bay side,). I can't believe this is happening  Oh, Mr. Murphy! |
I think it may just be the evaporater and thermal expansion valve that are different. The entire assembly looked the same except for that. But either way I think we have to swap at least that.
|
Has to come out through dash.
!AC you puss. |

Steering wheel and pedals are in, and the brake booster & master cylinder are torqued down.
Encountered a hiccup (what else is new?) with the TCS module and throttle cable. The cable seemed to have tension on it, and wouldn't allow the throttle body to fully close. Fed up, I decided to just ditch the TCS system all together. It was an easy decision to make, as the new rear I picked up is a 3-channel, versus the original 4-channel that came in the car & was damaged in the wreck. I had planned to swap 4-channel axles & backing plates onto this rear, but that's $150+ I can pocket now, I suppose. From what I was told, the ABS module I have will have to be swapped out for one out of a non-TCS equipped car--If this is true, then what a shame, as I spent more hours than I'd like to mention polishing the stock ABS block to a beautiful shine! Special thanks to Adam to coming in clutch with a part-number for a non-TCS throttle cable--$39 from my local parts store, which is a hint more expensive than I thought, but it cleans up the engine bay some, and more importantly: It's not broken :-P Threw the new engine belt on and poured some Mobil1 in & spun a new filter on today before things went south... I had forgotten to install the new plugs while the motor was out of the car (...yeah) so I tackled that today. All went well, got the driver's side done & the wires on, then moved onto the passenger side. While doing cylinder 4, the plug fell out of the socket & disappeared down into the motor mount's clam-shell, I believe. After spending 45 minutes trying to find it, I admitted defeat & left it in there, threw a new plug into Cylinder 4 and called it a day right there  I'll tackle cylinder 6 & 8, as well as the shifter, AC, rear brakes, wipers, & driveshaft/TQ arm after the holiday. Right now, I need to get on road and go help the girlfriend move [furniture/clothes/entire life] into her new 2nd-floor apartment (Is there an emoticon for back pain?) Quote:
Mike- I through the beat-up stocker on for now, but Beggs has both a rubber one & a poly one that I will eventually snag. The local parts store didn't have one, actually, and the only thing they could find me was $90... Autozone & Advanced said they didn't carry one either. No big deal now, anyway, as the crossmember is up, and I have a local source the mount. Thank you, though. |
Yea you need a three channel ABS block, and most auto parts stores will have the mount in their "performance" aisle for SBC stuff. Its a universal mount.

Why do I get the impression the maiden voyage is going to include a bunch of "non-essential" items missing from the car, a couple spare donuts mounted on different sides of the car and an open exhaust?
You should drive it down the street a couple times so you can collect all the parts that got lost during the build. Take pics. |
If you hurry, I can tow your POS car behind my truck with a big ass cable and you can make vroom noises.

I'm bringing a torch Tuesday to take out the monster in the ta

Got rid of the traction control. changed to 3.42 gears instead of 2.73s. May not have the rear Konis on for the maiden voyage. Sadly?, I have plenty of rim and tire sets to chose from . I'll be attempting to make the AC work before the maiden voyage. the radio and speakers won't be hooked up until I'm certain the mechanical details are completely worked out. Paint won't be done for "maiden voyage." As for open exhaust, depends if I can get a friend to do some welding for me before then or not... But having driven with open-headers before, the memory of the drone, resonance and overall displeasure are motivation enough to "get it done" before giving it any RPM. Quote:

Can I have the 2.73 rear?

just sell it and buy a diesel

The 2.73 wasn't the one in the wreck right ? talking about what came out the V6 ?
|
so whens the next build day?

I don't know what the gears in the V6 rear are, but that one may or may not go on the shell for scrap/roller purposes. Quote:

Don't count me in, unless I can use sandblaster

Well I don't know who wanted the 2.73 from the qreck but they arent salvagable.
Bent axle tube, busted axle, probably a destroyed carrier. Its not worth its own weight Count me in for prep work gotta learn somewhere |
Any updates? Been a while.....
