hey gang,
i know not everyone reads all of the forums everyday. if you haven't checked out the east coast nats info lately there have been a few mroe big developments.
we have added hawk's performance brake pads and meguiars car care products as prize sponsors for the event. we are expecting to add even more companies with in the next week or two.
please take the time to let your friends and other boards you frequent know about the club and the upcoming event. the more people who hear about and attend the event the bigger and better we can make future club meets.

ahh, damn, i forgot about the muffler rule. I was gonna have my friend come up from Long Island with is 9 second 3rd gen bird but i guess not :( Should probably rename the event f-body street car nationals or something. F-body nationals will give the wrong idea.

2 wuestions about the muffler rule.......

slp loudmouths technically have no muffler, but are probably going to be the most common exhaust setup at the event. what happens there.......

and do i need to close my borla?

Just carve styrofoam into a seat and carpet it. It'll weigh what... 5 pounds?? :lol:

i hope no one is being serious about all this. i have no problem telling anyone that they don't get to compete if their car doesn't comply with the rules.
the rule is simple. a full size automotive passenger seat. it doesn't have to match teh driver seat, it just has to be a seat mounted on teh passenger side.
if anyone thinks their car is so crappy that it will be suddenly rendered uncompetitive by installing a passenger seat they really need to look into what is wrong with their car.

Tim, instead of turning down peoples money and turning potential customers away, could we make it so that there may be no 'class' for people who dont conform to these rules, but have separate lanes so they can just run time trials all day to see what their car will run.

IMO, getting $25 from somebody who wants to run is better than getting $10 from them and pissing them off since they cant run or getting NOTHING from them and turning them off completely from the event. You said you made these rules to gain the best following, but they seem to be turning more people off from racing than vice versa. Sure, the rules for the classes are a great idea, but obviously not everybody wants to conform, and these people are people who most likely dont care whether or not they can bracket race against other people rather than be able to just make a few passes. Don't guarantee a number of runs, they might get 3, they might get 10, depending on car count. If the event is hugely successful, these are just a few more happy people, however if the event doesnt bring more than 75 cars or so, the extra people may help bring it up so that the track doesnt take a bath, and it is welcome back again next year.

if they want to run time trials that is great. but they can't expect to compete. that is what they are asking to do. if some are offended by rules i am not going to be able to help them.
rules were established montsh ago with only 2 comments about this rule. now everyone has a comment on it. i am tired of dealing with it. so from now on the position is simple, the rules are posted, don't comply = don't compete.
i know any rules package is not going to make everyone happy. i put a lot of time into research and the rules even spent several weeks posted up for debate. it is far too late for changes now.
i don't work for teh track, i don't get any money for doing all of this. i hope everyone will see past their objections with the rules and get their cars together to compete. if those who do not agree decide to spectate instead of running time shots they will just see that they missed out on an extremely fun day.

i think the muffler rule is a good one. it helps to keep the peace (literally) in the neighborhood where the track is. and the passenger seat rule keeps out the real serious race only type cars that are dragged in on a trailer. they only have one seat because it's in the middle of the car and there is no way they could put a passenger seat in without major modification, thereby making it unrealistic for them to compete (just one example of how cars are built solely for the strip - we all know those cars come in many varieties of build from tube chassis to whatever else).

true, $25 is $25, but wouldn't you want to at least have a shot at winning your class as opposed to knowing you can't because of what just rolled of off that trailer?

this type of competition is becoming more and more popular. it's all about making your street car fast, not about building a race only beast.

I was saying NOT to allow the people to compete in a class, but to just let them run time shots all day. That way they don't interfere with people competing. As for the muffler rule, Sundays are usually an open headder day at Island anyhow. Its a good idea to keep the street cars street cars, but again, to get the turnout, and even to give the spectators something other than street cars to watch, I think it'd be cool to have a few not so street cars there racing. (For instance, I'm working on setting up a match race between me in a 8.50 67 Camaro and my dad's friend in a 7.60 69 camaro, it'll put on a good show)

There are also very rarely (i could even take a gander at saying there arent any) 'funny cars' (center driven) that will show up regardless of a passenger seat rule. People who build those cars will only race them for BIG money. At any given bracket race, 99-100% of the cars driven even in Super Pro are left driven (with the obvious exception of dragsters, which wouldnt be an issue since they're obviously not f-bodies)

I wasnt trying to give you a hard time at all about the rules. I understand the classes plain and simple, and the rules for them are good. As long as you agree to letting people run time shots if they have no passenger seat or not the correct exhaust or whatever reason they cant run in a class, then I agree with all your rules completely.
