95 Z-28 Deer Repair
3 Attachment(s)
I have this really nice supercharged 95 Z28, only had it for around 4-5 months before i hit a deer with it. The insurance company totally screwed me and total'd it, but im not giving up on my precious. I went out and got a "junker camaro" for 700 bux and i was just wondering, Has anyone ever done the front end swap? and is it even possible to do?

Looks like a real mess, as long as the frame is still straight then I dont see why it cant be salvageable. It'll defenitly take alot of work.
If the frame is fubared it may cost too much money to be striaghtened, you could always find a nice v6 car, and just swap the drivetrain and pay v6 insurance ;-) |

Whenever you get the chance, we can use better judgement on how the frame is. Pop the hood (or pry it off if it wont open), take some pics of the radiator support area, and see if u can get any pics under the engine bay. When I rear-ended a car with my 86 T/A, I was lucky enough to just damage the radiator support. It took a good weekend to get it back together with fresh new parts, not to mention some salvagable parts too. My accident looked just as bad as yours, so you will definately be lucky if the rad support/frame isnt fubared. |
I think mine was worse...

air bags went off, huh. thats a lot of money right there.

well im glad to hear your guna fix it! i hate when people just dump fbodies that are readily repairable with a little time and effort
|
ummm... maybe it's just late but I don't get it
|
dahm it.. i typed a whole lot then closed the window and lost it, and i dont wanna retype it all. but with my experience in fbodys and cars in general, that camaro is very fixable, i doubt theres mucvh frame damage if any. repairs are dirt cheap if you know the right people, and yes anyone can make the right connections. email me if you have any questions about fixing the car, i'll even stop by if your local and ill go over the car with you to assess what needs to be fixed. Ive worked on many fbodys and i'm pretty good at determining damage. email me or just PM me through this webiste. and once you take the parts off the "junker" camaro i'd be interested in taking the rest off your hands.

Alright - i will have pics of the radiator support and as much as the frame as i can, i know the car still runs, i drove it home... the radiator is barely touching my fan belts, but im lucky to hit the deer on the right, hardly anything there but a battery, the left is where the supercharger is, and i would have just cried my heart out.

I just quickly shot these photos before i had to run to work, it shows what i can of the radiator support. I cant really tell if the frame is screwed, anyone have any ideas on how to get that checked out? Off to work.

Rad support is ****ed. Pull the fender off and see how the rail is.
I hate to say it but you're ****ed :( |

He's screwed. I deal with this stuff every day and I wouldn't touch that car with a 10-foot pole. I'd really like to see a better shop of the apron and rail. |
Well my rad support was/is sorta ****ed and its still fine bein my DD and all
|
with todays work by bodyshops, anything is fixable. ok so it may need a rail and a rad support. a new rad support is $120. If it was my car it would be fixed easily, but its not my car so i'm not gonna argue it, but last time i checked a damaged rad support doesnt make a car worthless.
|
Sure, anything is fixable. Doesn't mean it's a safe repair. I never said his car is worthless however he REALLY needs to think long and hard before making a decision. His car is ****ed up and bad. The rad support isn't just tweeked a little, it's ****ED. The upper tiebar is FUBAR as is the right side panel. You can't buy the upper tiebar seperately, it's a non-serviceable part. The entire rad support is $460.87 list, not $120. It's not a cake job either, it's about an 8-9 hour job. He really needs to see how bad the upper rail, apron and the main rail is because aside from the upper rail($42.85) the other two parts are big ticket items(rail is over a grand and the apron is over $500). Granted the rail assembly won't need to be replaced but you can't say for sure until the car is torn down(looks like the damage is over it).
I'm not trying to start a war or anything..that's not my intention but I do this for a living every day. It's my job. His car by no means is an easy fix and he has a huge decision to make. I'm just trying to arm him with some facts and reality. Just trying to help a fbody brother out. |
Also you can probably get a LKQ rad support but you're still looking at the time to put it in(plus paint).
If you need any advice or good shops in your area let me know..like I said this stuff is my career. |
