A-Load Opts Out...and back in????
...according to SI, AP and ESPN, A-Load has decided to opt out of his contract. Bye, jackhole.
"Boras said during a telephone interview Rodriguez made his choice because he was uncertain whether Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte would return to the Yankees. "Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do," Boras said. "He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were going."" What a load of crap. Nice excuse. He's a phony. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns |
...and so begins the exodus. (While Boston is about to sweep the World Series :D )

Yup, A-Rod's gone. I don't blame him though. Both the team and the fans have treated him like crap for four years. Sure, they all chanted MVP for a good portion of the year, but they've boo'd him more than they've cheered him. It sucks that both he and Torre are gone, but don't be mad at them, be mad that Steinbrenner and Cashman are staying.

Pay-rod FTL! :-x
|
i agree with wat the owners said, if he doesnt wanna be a yankee then we dont want him and wont fight to keep him.
|
The timing of his announcement, making this decision before they even talked to the Yanks, and making the decision public before they told the Yanks was all bush league. His reasoning about the status of the other players is phony. His talk all season about liking playing in NY and having a job to finish is bogus. Just say you want maximum cash. Damn, isn’t anyone honest anymore??
Man, I heard Gammons basically hammer him last night. It was great. Please I hope the Sox sign him. Please……………… |
every sports team goes through cycles, its the yankees turn to suck for a few years, oh well

"But instead, the focus of the baseball world is on the biggest phony in all of sports - Alex Rodriguez. " "But, as Gammons said last night it is "Buyer Beware" with him. There is a reason he has never played in a World Series" Ugh. |

According to the report, the Yankees were never able to present the offer. Through Boras, Rodriguez -- who had said numerous times during the course of the season that he "loves" New York and wants to stay -- turned down a request to meet with club officials. "It's clear he didn't want to be a Yankee," Hank Steinbrenner told the Daily News. "He doesn't understand the privilege of being a Yankee on a team where the owners are willing to pay $200 million to put a winning product on the field. "I don't want anybody on my team that doesn't want to be a Yankee." Also, Mattingly says he will not return to the Yanks in 2008. |
anyone who has followed the yankees for more than a week knows that a-rod has been struggling in the new york market. not always on the field, but certainly emotionally. the pressure gets to the guy and he falls apart a few times a season.
i would say it is better for him and the yanks in the long run that things went this way. a-rod needs to get back to a middle market team with no realistic shot at a world series, that is where he had his greatest successes and where he didn't live on the brink of day to day melt downs. |
The front office has been telling him to get the f- out of NY since '05. The fans have been bashing and booing him since 04. Now after the way they have treated Bernie Williams, now Joe Torre, it's Steinbrenner and Cashman that are the enemies of the Yankees, not A-Rod. He's been treated like crap for four years and like what Torre did, he's standing up for himself and telling them to stick it. To bash A-Rod is rediculous.
|
Oh, and they just said that they chose Gerardi as the next manager. Looks like he'll be the whipping boy to blame the next few years of failure on.

mattingly quit too

And oh, he got booed. Darn. He sucked in 2006. And you have to know people are going to expect a little more from you when you sign a $252M contract. Why was it $252 and not $250? Because that exactly doubled the 2nd biggest contract in sports, $126M for Kevin Garnett (I might have the wrong name). That is not coincidence, that was a demand from A-Rod & Boras. If you don't want the spotlight, don't make insane contract demands. A-rod is a phony. If that is why he wants out of NY then he should shut up and say it. No, he hides behind crap like 'oh, I don't know who my teammates will be'. Of course, if he had even bothered to talk to the Yanks maybe he would have found out the plans. All year all I heard from him was how much he loves NY. ESPN just played a little collage of him saying it a number of times during the season. Bull. He is a phony. I hope he is home crying about all the people being mean to him right now. He certainly isn't standing up. He will never stand up. That is not his style. He is one of the most disingenuous people I have ever seen come through the Bronx, and that is saying something. Do you not think the announcement made during game 4, w/o even telling the Yanks first wasn't bush league? Because every one else in BB does. Even the commissioner’s office said it. "We were very disappointed that Scott Boras would try to upstage our premier baseball event of the season with his announcement," Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, said Monday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "There was no reason to make an announcement last night other than to try to put his selfish interests and that of one individual player above the overall good of the game…” http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns I’m not saying the guy isn’t a great player – he is. But he is a cancer in the clubhouse. Just wait to you hear the comments once he’s gone – it’s happened everywhere else he left. Players were happy to see him go. There is a reason he is moving on to his 4th team in 8 years. And for $30 million+ a year, I kind of think they could use that cash elsewhere and fill the void. And bull on Bernie. So they didn't offer him a guaranteed contract. He was invited to camp. Torre told him to come to camp. Bernie didn't return anyone’s calls, even Torre's. He is equally guilty. Shed no tears for Bernabe. He was not an everyday player anymore and he was a very poor pinch hitter. I would not have guaranteed him a spot either. Torre was treated unfairly, IMO. The Yanks showed no class with him. They showed the same lack of class as A-Rod is showing them. So in a way they are getting their just desserts there. |

Sounds like A-Load is opting back in...reports have him talking to the Yanks without Boras...
|
i am surprised he didn't go to LA with Torre. A-Rod loves th guy.
the yankees are doomed. hiring someone who loves to be the star of the show to manage the most decorated team in baseball history in the biggest media circus on the planet is a bad bad move. the ego wars are bad enough when all the millionare babies are on the field, add one in charge of the dug out and you have a formula for disaster. |

Maybe getting rid of Boras is a step in the road to redemption....
|
he asked "friends on the team" to set something up with the yanks, once the talks started boras is involved.... he just didnt let boras initiate them
|
They should have just slammed the door on AROD. He doesnt deserve to be a Yankee!!

how about you validate your point? |
Whats To validate? Its so obvious in the papers. He didnt even wait till the world Series was over before mentioning he was opting out. His manager didnt do it on his own. He was told to do it or given permission too by AROD. If he really wanted to be a Yankee he should have waited to talk to the team owners then see his options. He is crawling back now because there is noone out there thats going to offer him that rediculous number he is asking for. He might not even get what he was making now. So I dont think he is worth all that hype, and definately he didnt perform what he is paid so much for. This year he did well, but what about the last 2 yrs. What happened in that last play off series. All these high priced players are costing us at the box office for decent seats.

2. he said all along that even though he was opting out he wanted to stay a yankee, THEY YANKEES SAID THEY WOULDNT TALK TO HIM AND NOW THEY ARE........WHOS CRAWLING WHERE? 3. the new deal he is discussing with the yankees is MORE than he was making so i guess it wasnt that rediculious 4. so if arod hit the ball, everyone else would have come out of their slump and the pitching wouldnt have sucked in the playoffs? 5. last 2 years? meaning 05 and 06? he was leauge mvp in 05, had an off year in 06 and is mvp in 07........ 6. do you honestly think that if everyone suddenly agreed to play for less, the owners would charge us any less to watch a game? thats absurd |
