ZR1: 205mph 638hp
http://blog.gmnext.com/?p=133
Test track in Germany, the official rating of teh ZR1 is 638hp, 18 more then when it first was shown. Watch as GM engineers do 205mph. |
wow that thing was on a bank and still doing 190+ Did you see that thing pass a tractor truck? Looked more like the highway lol
|
Yeah, I saw the tractor trailer and was like WHOAAAAAAAAAA
If I ever came up on a 18 wheeler at 200mph...I would probably need to change clothes. |

205? thats all? man im glad I didnt get all hyped up over it when they announced it. so let me get this straight, the Z06 with an LS7 can do 198mph on 505 hp, but something with 133 more hp, and all this carbon fiber and high tech crap in it, and it can only go 7mph faster then the Z06? wow America sux at making 200+ mph cars from the factory. Personally the Ford GT wins in this catagory, even though they arent making them anymore.

also, please tell me how many cars go 205 for $100,000-$110,000? |
Jeff you also need to keep in mind what the acceleration difference will be. It may be 2x as fast up to that speed. Plus what everyone else said.

Ok..a 505hp Z06 does 198mph. A 1001hp Bugatti Veryon does 253mph.... So for another 496hp, it only goes 55mph more then a Z06...and costs over a million dollars. I belive price tag is 1.2 million dollars. Thats 1,200,000 dollars. Z06 TOPS OUT at 80k if you round up. thats not even a 1/10th the price. |

yeah, that would be Erin Moran, from 'Happy Days'...
i'll take three. one in red, one in yellow, one in blue. thank you. |

and as for the ZO6 topping out at 80K, thats great, now take that other 20K that oyu were gonna use to buy the ZR1, and find out just how much faster it will go. A damn tune to the ZO6, and youll hit 200mph. Id rather have a Ford GT then a ZR1 cause it has style, its original, and has more of an iconic racing past then Corvette, as to where the C6's look like nothing more then revamped C5's. show me a Corvette that gets as much hype as this one does and go more around 215-220, and then ill tip my hat at it. Oh and Foff67, nice photo  |
So you'd be more impressed by the car's top speed? something you'll never see/use.
interesting. |
same to you guys, your going ,wow 205! so apparently there are places you can attain the top speed. if your gonna fork out that kinda of money for a car like that, you better know places to do that. same thing with acceleration, whens the next time your gonna go 0-60 in 3.3 seconds? what at a stop light? youll look like a douche doing that. you think people will wan to take those to the track, maybe, but for a couple runs, not week in and week out, so thats pointless as well. theres no art involved with the styling of corvettes, they area poor mans porsche. go ahead and flame on me cause I said poor mans porsche, but its the truth, unless you whip out that wallet and blow it on a ZO6, or a ZR1. not to say everyone can afford them, but you get what you pay for in IMO

As for the Ford GT, I think it is a very poor execution of a legendary car. Looks nice but that's about it. I would much rather have a (high quality) GT40 replica. |

205mph is stupid fast for a street car regardless.Lets talk about the carbon fiber..../puke

LOL@the Ford GT, please. It's a 6 figure POS. It's less of a car than the current Z06 is just about every fashion.
The fact is the ZR1 has catapulted the 'vette into the supercar category. You can say "oh it only goes 7 mph more" but it's not just about top speed. The car has more technology, more body enhancements, RIDICULOUS brakes. But I guess since it only goes 7mph more it's some kind of ripoff  It may be a poor man's Porsche as you say but it smokes it 6 ways from Sunday for a lot less. To hell with "status", if you're serious about performance(which it doesn't seem you are) then you're not going to find a better bang for the buck with the C6, Z06, and now the Zr1(if you're looking for a supercar). The American car companies never had a NEED to build a 200mph car but let's face it, what American competition is there for the Corvette? The Viper is comparable to the Z06 but that's about it. GM decided to go Euro hunting on a high level, hence the ZR1. You can focus on the top speed but that just shows you lack of information, the ZR1 is more of a car than the already bad ass Z06..but then again I'm just some biased, pompous 'vette guy  |
Does it get any timed laps at the ring yet?

The fact is the ZR1 has catapulted the 'vette into the supercar category. yeah it took them 55 years to finally get there  You can say "oh it only goes 7 mph more" but it's not just about top speed. The car has more technology, more body enhancements, RIDICULOUS brakes. But I guess since it only goes 7mph more it's some kind of ripoff  It may be a poor man's Porsche as you say but it smokes it 6 ways from Sunday for a lot less. To hell with "status", if you're serious about performance(which it doesn't seem you are) Yes I dont know ANYTHING about performance at all, I mean yeah sure Porsche has won more races than any other manufacturer in the history of automotive racing, and they claimed 16 overall victories and countless class wins at Le Mans, but then again what do I know, Im on a curator for the Rolex moments in Time meusem at Laguna Seca and Lime Rock and also help with the info on the cars in it and such then you're not going to find a better bang for the buck with the C6, Z06, and now the Zr1(if you're looking for a supercar). Actually I beg to differ. The new GT-R coming out was tested at 71,000 and is under 3.5 seconds from 0-60....sound familiar, oh yeah isnt that the ZR1's 0-60 time area, yeah though so, oh whats that 60K more for a pumped up C6 ? oh so worth it  You can focus on the top speed but that just shows you lack of information, Nah I just prefer to look at that area of the car. like i said, why pay 30K more for a ZR1, when you can take that 30K, and put that to your Z06, and blow away a ZR-1, and have plenty left to fill you tank up. the ZR1 is more of a car than the already bad ass Z06..but then again I'm just some biased, pompous 'vette guy  Nah your not good enough to be a pompus vette guy, your more of a prick. |

just so everyone is clear on this. this is NOT a place to pick on other members. lets not continue this. |
Wow, resorting to name calling? WTF? All I did was throw in my opinion, never did I call you names or insult you. Take you tough guy attitude and shove it.
Just to clear something up, I've been in a Ford GT quite a few times considering one of the big wigs at my job owns one. Nice car, worth 100+G's? Nope. As far as the GT-R..LOL. Dude please, please just stop. You're comparing two cars based on their 0-60 times? C'mon. Is that the best you can do? The GT-R isn't even CLOSE to a ZR-1...not even close...it's already been proved that one of the tests was bogus(I think it was road and track) not to mention the rumors are flying that Nissan sent in a ringer for a few of the tests. Somehow a car that weighs more and has LESS power than the Z06 is suddenly faster...hmmm....I mean I'm certainly no physics major but it somehow defies those laws  Even the Nissan fanbois know that the GTR isn't anywhere near a ZR1...again..it's being compared to the Z06. Christ, if you're going to try to act like you know what you're talking about at least get your info right. Also do you REALLY think you're going to stroll into the dealer and snag a GTR for $71K? IF you think that I have some beach front property in Arizona I'll sell you really cheap. After dealer markup that oh so great GTR will be more than a Z06. So you're getting a car that's SLOWER than a Z06 for more $$. Hmmmm, I'm still trying to find what's so great about it. Ohhhh that's right, you said it's compared to the ZR1 when it's slower, my bad. ***I do like the GTR- looks wise it's ok but the technology that went into it is pretty cool, it should give the other cars in it's designated class some competition.**** My comment about performance wasn't questioning your valuable knowledge about Laguna Seca, read into it a little more, if you need help figuring it out I'll explain it to you ;) You can call me a prick man I don't care, go whine somewhere else. I don't appreciate the name calling, nowhere did I insult you, say you're an idiot, etc so just relax there keyboard cowboy. |
Alright well I guess not everyone can be happy.
It takes exponentially more horsepower to go faster, on top of the fact that it also reequires a lot of aerodynimc work to make sure the car will be stable and able to a high speed. The W-16 quad turbo in a UPS van isnt going anywhere. Now, the question you sort of brought up is something I have questioned myself. Who buys a 100k Vette? I mean...I would, but in the 100k market place, there is a different ball game. I know the ZR1 will outperform 98% of the world's road going cars, but at 100k, it reaches a certain level where HP and good looks are just the entry fee. You need a lot for 100k, and you need exclustivity. Now, the ZR1 is very exclusive, but stand it next to 10 other Vettes, and that quickly goes away. Not knocking the Vette, but the pinache a car must have to see this 100k status is massive. 205mph...thats awesome to me. Ill never see that speed from behind the steering wheel. What is more astonishing to me is that the ZR1 will probably be one of the best performing vehicles out there...probably in the Top 10. |
