It Was 40 Years Ago Today...

....when Atlantic records and Led Zeppelin changed the direction of rock and roll as we know it. Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin's first album. Right from the beginning, with the thunderous "Good Times Bad Times," you can tell this isn't some ordinary sound. Then into the sublime "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and bluesy "You Shook Me." From there, we travel into the twisted "Dazed and Confused" and the mellow but angry "Your Time is Gonna Come." That evolves into Jimmy Page's guitar showpiece "Black Mountain Side" and then the blasting "Communication Breakdown." "I Can't Quit You Baby" is another great blues track, and the album finishes off with the long and mesmerizing "How Many More Times."

If you get a chance today, whether you're shoveling snow, driving your car, or just sitting around, definitely pop this classic in and just have a listen. Rock music was forever altered on January 17, 1969.

Thank you Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham for some incredible music!

thats amazing that it's 40 years old and still listened to by millions!
one good thing about being older then most of you is i got live through the music of the 60's and 70's when it was in it's prime, the best years of music, imo. from what i remember  lol

led zep isnt one of those totally awesome bands like slayer though...where you can listen to the whole album through anyplace, anytime, anywhere.

there is a time and a place for zep....its usually the bedroom or the backseat of a chevy v8 rwd car

Go to wolfgangsvault.com (google it) they stream old concerts. I think there is a jan 69 show and there is one from 4/27/69 that is great.

LOL. You humor me.

Led Zep did change rock and roll like others and it was at that time 60s and 70s that their music was breaking barriers. To compare led zep to todays bands would be like compareing Richard Petty to Jimmy Johnson, they did it during their time and the bands today are doing it at their time.Personally I cant stand a band that has a lead singer screaming at the top of his lungs some sort of lyrics you can barely understand like todays heavy metal bands.Led Zep did it with class

meh they both define their genre and era. i just say slayer has the edge because you can listen to them anywhere...including the bedroom...zepplin doesnt fit all moods...zepplin is the mood. theres a difference

ps. id hardly consider slayer one of the bands of ''today''

TheBandit 01-22-2009 10:07 PM

Zeppelin can be listened to anywhere, anytime.

If all jayz music is like that "song" he did at that inaugural ball the other night then he blows. That was awful. He was out of rhythm, no regard for key talking over some recurring noise. He is far too famous for all his stuff to be that bad, so maybe it was just a terrible song. Then again a lot of those r&b/hip hop/whateveryoucallit guys can’t do it live anyway. Kayne West was terrible on SNL a few weeks ago too – more inability to stay in key. He even seemed winded.

Well, Kayne's new style is more like him trying to sing rather than rap. His voice on his new album sounds heavily computer enhanced. So I can understand why he did terrible live. Its a break away from his previous style.

Crayface 01-23-2009 09:56 AM

i dont like rap much more a metal/techno dude but i do like kanye's new chit

he's ripping off T-Pain. And since it's become the latest thing to do he's getting his own new "version" of it or something.
