Console Mod Pics (Does anyone really use 56k anymore to warn?)
I had the original console that I bought with the car, which had a XM Radio installed where the pocket and cigarette lighter would be. I bought one off ebay and kept this around. I needed a place to mount my line lock switch, and wanted to make use out of the wasted space. I seen many people do it before, So I thought I would try...
XM Radio that use to be installed: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/01ws6/xmconsole.jpg Cut out the plastic bracket that was glued in: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0467.jpg Found a scrap piece of plastic at work, cut it down, and sanded it down to fit. Then cut the holes for the switches and guage: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0469.jpg Beveled the top edge a bit so it blended in a little: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0470.jpg Epoxied it on. This stuff smelled nasty as all hell: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0472.jpg The paint I used. Moutain Dew to keep me going : http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0474.jpg Quick 2 coats of paint. A/F guage I got from Blackbirdws6. Plus, two switches I swiped from work: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0475.jpg I will probably find some 12v lights to mount above the switches to come on when they are energized: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0476.jpg Rear view. Had to make a little clearance at the bottom for the guage: http://home.comcast.net/%7Etstrella/...e/img_0477.jpg Thanks for viewing. :wavey: |
hey man came out real nice. did you just use the paint on the console or did you put clear coat over it
just the paint. No clearcoat
how did you get the switches to stay on the plastic through the holes? you inspired me to redo my center console lol
they have nuts that screw onto them, holding them in place. The plastic ones you find that the store will usually have them on the back.
Looks good man. I could of machined you one out of aluminum like i did lol
