Any truth to this?
it seems that a TH400 converter can work with a LS1 flex plate? any truth to this?
also i read there is something i can buy that like shims it or that is a spacer to make it work? -thanks |
turbo 400 will bolt up to the back of an ls1 motor
but there is long tail & short tail versions, the tc will not directly bolt up to flywheel & tran mount will need to be changed and so on & so on. why do you want a 3spd trans? is the car making 500+hp? if not..... no need for it, mpg will be way down and rpms will be way up on highway driving. |

You need a new converter to do this... not a TH400 converter. |
TH400 converter will not have lock up.
|
most important spec of the t400 convertor is..... that:
t400= 298mm stator/shaft ls1 4l60= 300mm stator/shaft t400 converter will not work. if looking for a decent priced new convertor look into ACC Boss Hog Convertors ask for Nelson if you call them direct. if you want a cheap good/used converter, check on TecH....seen a couple there. |
Buy a stock one, and deal with it until you can afford the 700 for a new one
|
thanks for the tips guys.
and matt its not that i cant affordt it, i just cant justify spending that much on a verter thats for a daily |
For a daily its even more important to not cheap out. Take it from someone who did.

at this point i think im putting the stock verter in, and then when i get enough $ buy a built trans/higher stall and do it all at once. |
I think Kirkevil had left his stock stall on big al's porch. What ever came of that, I do not know.

Bye-Bye trans... Theres a reason you got it so cheap. Search tech. |
Matt (lt1slow) has made some very good points. He is trying to help you learn from his mistakes. A very stand up thing to do in my opinion.
A quality converter is just as important in a daily driver as in a full race car. If you need something with a higher stall the money will be well spent, If you dont then find a good OEM stock GM unit.. |

Yes, unless you want to gamble and pray it A) is in semi decent condition B) won't take out your trans
Best bet for a cheaper route is to look for used vig/yanks for sale, and have em sent back to the company for a refresh/restall. Or just bite the bullet, install the stocker, and save up. |
