G8 GT/ New 20"Camaro SS Wheels+Brembo Brakes Installed!

My son Darren just got his 2008 G8 GT upgraded from 19" wheels to a set of take off 20" Camaro SS wheels with the Midnight Silver Metallic finish. He also got a set of Brembo calipers and rotors. These were purchased from SLP with about 20 miles on everything. The calipers were flat Black (with the silver word Chevrolet and Brembo in red) on them. I went over them with Dupli-Color Red caliper paint and installed a new Brembo white decal and then clear coated everything. He also has a new set of Hankook Ventus V12, in the size of 275/30/20 tires in the rear and 245/35/20 on the front. Got these from the Tire Rack. For extra insurance a body shop friend of mine (who mounted the tires and installed the brakes) rolled the inner lip of the rear fender wells. I changed the Chevy emblem center caps to a set of Pontiac Dart G6 center caps to give it a stock appearance. The entire setup is just different enough that it really sets off the car and now looks like it could have been installed by the factory that way. He already sold the stock wheels and tires. The pictures and details are on the G8 Forum and here is the link http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44699

Double checked it out on the R.S. rear picture, all is OK, bad shot.

Sorry if the story is a little long, but i figured some of you might be interested in the details that go into a project like this. Not quite as long as BlackbirdsWS6 thread, but thanks for the comments so far.

You might have missed this with Ed's lack of use of the enter button.

They are stock. Have not had a chance to detail them with the Dupli-Color RED paint. Will also use a silver paint on the hub section of the rotors and cooling ribs.

sweetbmxrider 03-16-2011 10:14 AM

Nice, should look really good then.

Wow. Looks awesome

Would have gone with a either a polished wheel or black with the red. Black sometimes makes everything look too dark so if I had the choice between the two, I would have picked what he did. Brakes will look good once the backs are finished in red and go well with the red/black/carbon theme of the car.

The camber looks odd at the rear. Sure its not just looking that way in the pictures?

Car is looking good. Any plans to give it a bit more go to match the show? I will have to check it out closer at the next show :)

When we went to SLP to pick out the wheels, the polished Silver wheel and the Midnight Silver were VERY close in looks, with the Midnight Silver having just a shade darker tint then the Silver wheel. Also having driven it for a couple of days now, there is a fair amount of black brake dust which does not show up on these rims.
The camber on the one picture is just a bad camera angle shot. We went and checked it out and the front and rear tires line up perfectly straight.
Hopefully he can launch it a little harder, but he has all the bolt-on goodies (except for a supercharger), so another tenth or two is about where it's going to be.
The ride is just like it was before with the 19" setup, not harsh at all, and the brakes really haul the car down from speed without hardly any effort.

perfect!

When you ROLL a lip (it curls upward), it only affects the INNER flat part of the fender. That is done so when the oversize rear tires squat down or hit a rough speed bump, the inner lip will not cut the tire.
You do not notice the roll from outside, the fender still has its original shape.

I'm pretty sure he meant lip on the wheel...
