Inspection Question

And yea... told myself I never would make a thread like this... buut this guy needs to pass.

95 LT1, so sniff test, any one know a shop central Jersey area that will be more lenient?

I have cats, and mufflers, just not 100% on whether it will clean up 100%.

WildBillyT 06-01-2011 10:40 AM

Matt:

I may have one in two weeks. I will keep you posted.

LTb1ow 06-01-2011 10:42 AM

send me an evelope with $50 and your name, addy, vin, year, make, and model and wait for return mail

I brought my DD through yesterday w/ a loud exhaust leak and honestly all the dude did was check my horn ....I would have him try the state facility first.

LTb1ow 06-01-2011 05:09 PM

What year is the DD?

My car gets a sniff test, and the lack of tailpipes might confuse the poor workers.

2003 Chevy Tracker...im about to bring the LS1 through, it will still go through as a 95 because they scan the vin...even easier.....OBD 1 cars it doesnt matter if your SES light is on, if hes a 95 he should be good to go...they honestly dont look for **** anymore

Tale128 06-05-2011 05:19 AM

yeah no safety checks or anything, just plug in the OBII, so no dash lights, should be no problem

Its a 95, you fail

greenformula92 06-05-2011 04:03 PM

if you have cats and mufflers you should be able to pass providing your cats are working effiently, just make sure they are nice and hot, like if you are on the waiting line bring your RPMs up to like 1500 for a while, the hotter the cat is the better it will work....its what i did with 91 after i did the plugs/wires/cap and rotor and my car sat for about 8 years

LTb1ow 06-05-2011 07:45 PM

Issue is, I lack tailpipes.

greenformula92 06-06-2011 07:19 AM

ahh, gotcha. well you should pass otherwise so really you just need to find a shop that will do OBD1 inspections, they are becoming fewer and fewer, most shops do only OBD2 and since its only emissions now theres no reason to pay someone off to pass for the safety short comings

sweetbmxrider 06-06-2011 07:23 AM

He's cammed

Vacuum leak....

greenformula92 06-07-2011 06:10 PM

as long as the cam isn't redonkulous it should pass

Tru2Chevy 06-07-2011 07:06 PM

Matt, just take it to state inspection and see what happens. It's not like they are gonna arrest you for not having tailpipes. The worst thing they can do is tell you they can't inspect it or you find out that you are spewing a bit too much toxic crap. It's not the end of the world.

Yea but once I fail, it will be even more of a headache to get a shop to pass a car that failed.

this is what a "friendly" shop advised my friend to do:

go and fail, and you get the extension. if you come back within that time frame, you'll have to prove that the problem has been fixed. if you wait 1 day longer (so you'll have to drive to the shop with expired inspection) the computer erases what you failed for originally and you don't have to worry about them looking extra closely at it

sweetbmxrider 06-17-2011 03:47 PM

Not in the new program, once you fail you must correct the issue immediately. A cop could give you a ticket as you pull out of the driveway after failing for inspection. Granted most probably wouldn't do that but the new program is bs.
