Online Forum Knowledge

Kind of a random question for you guys..

For the people who were into the online forums long enough to see the introduction of the LS1 4th gen, how long would you say it took for forums to be really informative?

IE, like, where all the quirks and stuff were down to a science of "oh its doing this", means you need to do this.

(Just used the LS1 cause its the newest one I could think of)

01-02ish before it became commonplace enough to have people agreeing on things

sweetbmxrider 10-13-2011 06:42 PM

This question is a trap. The internets are always right.

While remarkably true, if there is no posts to be right, therein lies the problem.

Yup. I'd say 4-5 years or so. Was like that on the GP forum as well.

I have a serious question about the ls motors.. how long did it take to figure out the tuning? I know it didn't happen overnight and there had to be plenty of blown motors..

sweetbmxrider 10-14-2011 07:18 AM

Yeah, because the black magic that runs them is nothing like any other engine out there. Kaboom.

WayFast84 10-14-2011 07:52 AM

Oh yeah. Tell that to all the new 5.0's blowing up because they mess with the knock sensors to much..

Blackbirdws6 10-14-2011 09:07 AM

2005-2006 I think things really got well put together. Internet tough guys are forever tho.

its not the knock sensors blowing them up. its the fact that OTHER crap in the motor is going on, and having the knock sensors either shut off or turned way down, is allowing it to happen without the computer trying to put the engine into a safe mode....

its already also known that the new 5.0s have an oiling issue... so no oil, plus no factory failsafes=fail

Like Mike said, take away your engine protection and then complain when it blows up.

kind of like torque management and drivetrain problems

Slow-V6 10-14-2011 12:09 PM

I joind Firebird V6 in 2001 and LS1tech in 2002.. Firebird V6 was very informative but the 3.8 was out for 4 years prior, LS1tech really started to take off around 2003-2004 from what I remember.. So I would say 3-4 years as well..

LTb1ow 10-14-2011 02:25 PM

thanks guys

I'll buy you hp tuners for your ls1 so you can tune it for the heads/cam. Let me know when it pops.

honestly, who tunes **** anyway?

Mike 10-14-2011 04:52 PM

My knock sensors have been de-tuned for 5 years and my motor is fine. So Point not made. It's idiots doing half assed mods and not doing supporting mods to correct known issues that is the problem

Until about 2004, it was left to the "professionals" and shops that specialized in LS mods.
I remember ongoing forum wars between competing shops, saying that so and so stole their heads/cam idea or tune, etc etc. Lots of dramaorama. The DIY LS guy was not super big till 2004 when there was a large spike in aftermarket-ready parts.
