Opinions on exhaust

I am going to be totally re doing the exhaust on the GTA. Here is my plan and the only part that I haven't decided on is what cat-back to go with.

Hooker 2055 Emissions headers with Y-pipe
Catco 3 Inch in 3 Inch out flanged cat.

Here are the three exhaust Systems I have narrowed it down to

Magnaflow: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-16829/

Flowmaster: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-17233/

Borla: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BOR-14888/

I want the Borla but the price tag is large so that why the other two are in consideration. If I get the magnaflow or the flowmaster it leaves room for me to get a set of runners to go with this set up now. If I buy the Borla the runners will have to wait for the winter.

Just looking for some opinions to kind or narrow it down to one so I can shorten up my summit wish list lol

I have the Flowmaster exhaust on my 87. I don't think I would buy it again. Fitment was not the best and they use the old style exhaust clamps which makes it a real pain to take apart. I would go with one of the other kits you listed.

Your gta should have dual cats right?

88WS-6 06-11-2012 11:56 AM

Negative. Dual Cat's was an extra. And that really wouldn't matter because I am replacing the Y-pipe and going with a different cat set up

Thought about it but I want to put all new stuff on the car. Just my preference right now

Damn you, you just added a 4th choice to the mix. Is that 3 inch at the converter flange? You don't happen to have a part number do you? Summit has it listed as fits single cat models but doesn't specify which size

maroman88 06-11-2012 08:43 PM

uhh bought it like 7 years ago lol i have no idea and havent really driven or seen it in 2 years, i also have a cut out welded in before the cat. i know the cat is 3in and the catback is 3in

looking thru summit i think i found what i have

That's why I like it

maroman88 06-12-2012 01:02 AM

Borla adjustable on my LT1 is pure sex

88WS-6 06-12-2012 06:24 AM

I'm a fan of hooker 2055s into the magnaflow. Loud when you want it to be, low rumble at idle/coasting. That's what I'm saving for.

WSex 06-12-2012 06:32 AM

you get over it very quickly
imo

OK so I placed my large summit order this morning and got my free shipping

here is what I got
Hooker Headers 2055
Borla Adjustable
Catco 3 inch In 3 Inch Out
Accell shorty spark plugs
Taylor 90* boot wires
Spark Plug wire boot protectors

Runners can wait for the winter or until i stumble accross a used set.

Great list, except for this!

I agree. I do not know if they are a necessary mod though. If they are not, ditch them.

NGK makes shorter plugs if you need the clearance.

greenformula92 06-12-2012 04:55 PM

I bought them as a just in case.

Yes, I use those in my Z. My old headers needed them.

You use Accels or the NGK's?

I always had problems with those cats breaking up and coming apart. The only aftermarket cat I found to last was the ODBII compliant ones from Magnaflow. But they are much more expensive than the Catco.

How about a Mufflex 3.5" system for your car? You can choose the muffler to suit your sound tastes...

I actually heard they were pretty good. How long were they on the cars before they broke up?

steverc0034 06-14-2012 07:27 AM

Run a true duel setup.

Less than a year.

You can and others have done so successfully, but the dual pipes are a pain to route and add a lot of weight vs. a single pipe.

He has a stock 305 right now. Both those options seem to be a bit overkill.
