It's supposed to be a "summer cruise" so theoretically it starts June 21st and goes until Labor Day but if the weather is nice you'll find people cruising any Friday evening. There are a bunch of other cruises to hit up which I plan on doing this summer. Perfect place to hand out fliers and sell membershi... I mean t-shirts :)

Ian 04-06-2005 07:15 PM

I'll be hitting up somerville as much as possible this summer. :)

j0n 04-06-2005 07:19 PM

:stupid: i plan on being there every friday night

Untamed 04-06-2005 10:18 PM

It starts after Memorial Day (May) and runs through the end of August / beginning of September. Nice, mellow cruise nights with plenty of cafes and restaurants to eat at. It gets busier and busier each year so leave work early to find a place to park.

Nice when a town actually supports this to the point of putting up banners over main street announcing it.

BigAls87Z28 04-06-2005 10:32 PM

I wont be able to go up there as much as I did last year. Probably not at all really, unless I work mornings.

HardcoreZ28 04-07-2005 08:06 AM

Yeah getting there early is a must....thank God for half day friday's all summer!

bad64chevelle 04-07-2005 11:13 AM

Where is this place? Sounds like something I wouldnt mind cruising to once the weather is nicer and the SS is ready. Let me know!

HardcoreZ28 04-07-2005 12:15 PM

It's a town or two over from the Fudd's in Bridgewater that we meet at. Friday nights a large section of Main St. is lined with classic cars. Most of the restaurants and pizza places and such stay open late so you can get food and check out all of the cars. Fun to go every few weeks, but a lot of the same cars each week.

Paul, has your Dad ever taken the Z? Your car is also clean enough to be shown off with the hood popped.

HardcoreZ28 04-07-2005 12:39 PM

Yeah we've had the Z there before....my father is paranoid of all the kids riding around on their bikes though. I'm gonna bring my IROC a few times this year.....usually I haven't been able to get there early enough to find a spot.

j0n 04-07-2005 01:32 PM

i look forward to seeing everyone there BUT[rant] if you have a 4th gen car with nothing special YOU DO NOT BELONG PARKED ON THE STREET...this is a classic car cruise...some third gens may get by(like hardcorez28's cuz it is a gorgeous car with lots of work done) but for the most part it should be all the classic muscle out there...no c5s...no c5 z06s even...the only 4th gen car i've ever seen there that deserved a spot on the street was a new zl-1 car with 200 miles  who's owner let me sit in :omg: [/rant]

btw jon from the pictures i've seen of the 64 it would fit just fine out on the street 8)

HardcoreZ28 04-07-2005 01:57 PM

I remember that ZL-1.....that car was insane! But highly overpriced for what it was.

i agree, but there are always gonna be those who want to get there early/show off what they got(ie-when Dave 1st got his car back, saw a really nice Supra, etc...)

NJSPEEDER 04-07-2005 03:58 PM

It's interesting that you mention this TIm. One of our members (Vanilla Gorilla, I think) that lives next door to the guy that organizes the Sommerville Cruise. I remember him posting about it when he joined (I risked my life to run out in traffic and flyer him at Sommerville one night).

- Justin

j0n 04-07-2005 06:27 PM

haha i flyer-ed him too...but i didnt run out into traffic...just kinda walked past and dropped a flyer in the car...wasnta ll that difficult

Untamed 04-07-2005 08:49 PM

The type or style of the car didn't bother me, nor the age, as long as the car was cleaned and prepped for show. Showing some pride in your ride, in a public gathering thats open for anyone, should reflect in the effort you put into that ride. If its worth showing, do it.

What bothered me was the occasional punk with his loud bass, parked with every door and hatch open, pumping obnoxious tunes out over everyone else. Fortunately they didn't do it for long, after a couple dozen people walk by frowning and shaking their heads.

NJSPEEDER 04-07-2005 09:15 PM

i will look at any car. prepped for show or race or stock or beat up survivor.
if someone takes pride in it and likes teh way it is or is working to make it the way they want i will show them respect.

The parking on the streets is for the old cars or new collector cars like a rare viper or tuner vehicle. Nobody wants to see a slew of f-body's and late model mustangs. If the car is done really well and tasteful then maybe, but even then I believe it's best to put the newer stuff behind the church.

HardcoreZ28 04-08-2005 07:49 AM

I'm not sure who you can call up but I can find out....my father's Datsun club has called before and gotten space reserved. They reserve club spaces on the eastern end of Main St. infront of the court house where the diagonal spots are. I've seen a few other clubs use that area before as well. If you want I can try to get the person's name and number we need to contact, just let me know.

Yea, that's what I was talking to Vanilla Gorilla about when he joined back in the fall. If you can get some contact information that would be great.
