Home depot intakes, cutouts, and burnouts rule
So i was browsing the aisles in home depot today and came across some aluminum tubing stuff, and after messing around with it a little i decided i could make this work for a CAI. The tube has a 9" K&N filter inside, and the tube attaches to a metal thing that opens up in a rectangle shape (similar to LS1 airboxes), and draws in air from right behind the headlight. Oh, and it only cost me $15  as opposed to the airboxes you can buy that cost like $220, this will do a good enough job for me.

:rice:  so um, your intake is all blocked off with the headlight in? Interesting... and nice 2 tire fire haha

Looks pretty good man. I wouldve somehow mounted it in the driver side foglight with a snorkel, but thats just me. GJ on the burnout ;-)

Nice cheapo job, but the opening looks pretty small. I don't know how much air is getting into that filter now.

I hope it doesnt trap heat around the filter for you and make the intake charge even hotter...especially when summer is just around the corner.

A cheap, imitation-way to make "Somewhat-of-A Ram Air" is dual snorkels. Have 1 snorkel hooked up behind each foglight hole with the lenses removed (unless you love them to death). Theres a 305 (carbed) with it done on cardomain and had gains of around 10-12 extra horses + a Grand Am had it done. Seems to work, putting my 2 cents in :)

Cool!
I run the cheapie home depot intake on the bird + slp cold air kit. Can you get a tube down to the bottom of the fender? It would be a bit more effecient down there. |
