Fans

I recently put together a 92 RS for my sister (its a 3.1liter auto). I did a good tune up on the car and it runs great. The only problem I am having is the fans. Start the car up and let it run for awhile, it will get up to temp and I guess the thermostat opens and it comes down, basically functioning normally. When does the fan turn on? I have taken the car and let it run but I have never seen or heard the fan kick on.

BTW, the car will be in Brick. As I mentioned, its a 92 RS with 85-90GFX. It is currently 9 colors but mostly purple and blue. I'll also have my sis join up on the website so we can increase the number of girls a bit.

probably in the 210-220 range

I have had the car up around there and it hasn't turned on. I haven't really checked it out yet. I pulled the fuse and that was fine. I'll investigate a little further but if I can't seem to make it click on I may rig it so it stays on all the time.

fwiw my 98 ls1 cars settings stock were 226 for fan 1 and over 230 for fan two...i know yours is just the single fan...just what my thinking is as far as when it probably "should" come on.

Is it set up so if you don't hit the switch its just on its auto setting?

My sis is not too bright, I don't think she would remember to turn it on and off. Amazing, she's on the dean's list but normal things she just can't do....I just hope she doesn't smack this car up.

Check the fan relay up by the firewall above the headlight wiring harness. Its a $10 piece at your local parts dealer.

*EDIT* BTW, if the fan is malfunctioning I can hook u up with one for free. It came outta an 85 FB, and I got no use for it. :-D

Easy way to check and see if the fans are even working is to put the a/c on Max and full blast. This will force the fans on if they're working. If they don't come on, it's a crap shoot whether it's the motor or relay.

Thanks a lot guys. I am gonna mess with it this weekend and I will let you know what happens.

I just got an adjustable fan switch from summit racing. Easy to instal and it bypasses all of that other crap. Haven't had any problems with it.

I got back from PA tonight and on the way home, I noticed my fan wasnt working when I saw my temp reading at 250!! So im in your shoes, prolly gonna replace thermo with a 180, relay, and flush out the brown antifreeze.

If your moving then the temperture should not rise at all if your fluid and thermostat is in working order. The cow catcher cools it down plenty.

 why not get a 160 thermo? also do you have the air dam installed under the radiator?
