GM having brain freeze?

General Motors Corp. will extend its employee-pricing discount plan on select 2005 models until Sept. 30, a spokeswoman said Thursday.

The world's biggest automaker also plans to apply the discount to select 2006 full-size trucks and sport utility vehicles, said spokeswoman Brenda Rios. The program lets customers buy vehicles at the employee rate.

i guess they cant come up with anything better so they are extending their current offering even longer

It'll be interesting to see if any of the others follow their lead.

I think that they really enjoy the jump in sales that it gave them.....

dont get me wrong...4 months ago it was a great idea to jumpstart sales but you'd think they'd come up with some new ideas by now.

Tru2Chevy 08-25-2005 10:19 AM

Yea, I wonder how their sales were affected when the other companies started offering them too.

Didn't their market share jump something like 25% to 40% the first month they offered it?

They really did it to clear out old inventory as some of the new models are rolling in. They must still have inventory to clear out so they're continuing it I guess. You can bet the other guys will too.

foff667 08-25-2005 12:05 PM

if they are applying it to some 06 full size trucks why would that be? I'd assume they are their best sellers

JL8Jeff 08-25-2005 12:56 PM

That's probably just the teaser so they can say it includes some 2006 models to get you in there.

BigAls87Z28 08-26-2005 12:11 AM

There are very little, if any 05's left.
The reason they are doing it to the 06 Full sized trucks is because very soon, we will see, officialy, the brand new GMT-900 SUV's and Trucks. Clearing them out can set teh stage for a full on assault of brand new SUV's and Trucks onto GM lots.

Time to sell my soul and pick up a CTS-V

there are a bunch of cars in the gm lineup id love to have...just cant afford one right at the moment :(

BigAls87Z28 08-26-2005 10:22 AM

The biggest gain GM has made is with "Conquest Sales", which are people that have jumped ship from other brands, and into GM cars, ie Camry for a Malibu, Civic for a Cobalt, etc.
I belive that half of the sales boom bare conquest sales, which is fantastic. That brings people into a GM to see the improved quality and see what GM really has to offer. This is where GM needs to come up big and retain these people for the future.
And now with the Total Value Promise, lowering prices and upgrading equipment, they can pull more people into the fold.

I read that in June GM sold a little over half a million cars as a result of the promotion, and that it was their biggest month of sales in 19 years.

BigAls87Z28 08-27-2005 09:19 PM

Yeah, thier market share for June was 41%. Thats almost every other car a GM. But like I said, the conquest sales is where GM comes up big. Getting people out of ToyHondNissans and into Malibus, G6's, Cobalts and LaCrosse's.
