Running rich again
My 88 WS6 LB9 is running really rich yet again. This time, tons of water is shooting out of the exhaust when slowly revving. Any ideas or suggestions? It really hasnt ran this way since I got it 2 months ago, but now the stench of richness is putting an impact on my braincells  . Thanks

How old is the O2 sensor?
|
Prolly as old as the engine itself (40k orig miles out of an 87 Formy) . Shall I replace? It also gives a MAF code, maybe they are in coalition together?
|
check the maf sensor with a voltage meeter, and see whats going on with it first, see what its reading at idle, and with an open throttle, probe it from behind with pins while leaving it plugged in, see whats up with that first. dont just go replacing something unless you know somethings wrong with it. also, make sure the timing is set properly. is the car running poorly? we need some more info on this
as for the water, dont mind it, its a by-product of combustion, especially when the weather is cooler. and its perfectly normal. |

I agree with everything he said, test out the MAF if its throwing a code. If the MAF isnt reading how much air is coming into the engine correctly, then it might dump extra fuel into the motor. And yeah, no need to worry about the water. |
hahahaha
your good people man |

thanks, I do what I can |
Yea i just tested the MAF and volts are around 1 rofl. I got a three page troubleshoot on MAF sensors and how to fix, so it should be smelling better by wednesday :-D Mucho Gracias

any time amigo

Another question... I think the MAF Sensor is bad, cuz if you look through the screen, that really thin wire is split. Maybe thats causing the problem?
|
If you don't wanna plunk down the $$ for a new MAF (I think they're over $100 from a parts store), I have a spare here. Only thing wrong is that it's been de-screened, so it'll actually run a little lean on startup. You could swap it in just to make sure that's the problem. I'm over in Bergen County, close to Exit 70B on Rt. 80.

Problem fixed!!! Bruce (tastyle88) hooked me up with a new MAF sensor and now it doesnt run rich, no water in the exhaust, and no SES LIGHT FFS!!!
After the speedometer is fixed, and the flexplate is checked out, its definately roadworthy :-D |
