Seafoam
I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I want to see if anyone has heard any bad stories/negatives on it.
Also if anyone knows where I can buy a can around here?? |
GM sells what they call Top Engine Cleaner, which is pretty much the same. Dunno if its cheaper or not, maybe someone else can help us out here

I just bought a can of seafoam for the Lumina on Saturday. Paid $4.49 at Advance Auto Parts.
The CV6 guys swear by it, and it did work wonders on Tim's '84 Cavy, so I figure for 5 bucks it can't hurt. My dad also recommended Lucas fuel injector cleaner. Comes in a little clear bottle. I ran one bottle through on a 1/4 tank, now running another with a full tank. Idle is a bit smoother. - Justin |
seafoam is fun...ive done the TA about 3 times and matts truck once...the smoke show rocks 8)....i buy 2 bottles at a time...1 for intake, and the other for the tank and oil...i put about an 1/8th of the bottle in the oil and the rest in the tank....after an aggresive drive i change the oil

sea foam is great ****. pour 1/3-1/2 of the can in through the brake booster vaccum line while the engine is running and warm. shut the car off for 5 mins, start her up and let the smoke go. pour the rest in the gas tank. id avoid putting it in the oil as i have seen that on anything with diecent milage that the seals all of the sudden start leaking, iunno if its that the stuff is eating away at them or that it just cleans the crud holding them together away or that the stuff makes the seal rubber hard and it starts to leak, could be anything. but thats just my experiance

i just seafoamed my car for the first time like 2 weeks ago. i was putting it in a vacuum line when i put too much in at one time and it stalled the car and a cloud of smoke puffed right back in my eyes. that's when i just poured the rest of the can into my gas tank.

ya have to keep the engine alive, just pour it very very slowly as not to let the engine kill out

GM Top Engine cleaner is about $7 a bottle. They sell it in an aerosol can too so you can spray it in your intake and tb. Great stuff. I use it on all of my cars. We used it on a buddies '89 Camaro RS with 150K miles and it made a huge difference. If you've got a lot of miles on your car and you've never done it before, it'll make a noticeable difference. Make sure you change the oil and the plugs after using it though. More than likely when the carbon comes off, it'll get all over the plugs and make them a mess. The oil comes out black as can be too.

picked up autozone's last can today (along with oil/fitler, fuel filter, PCV valve, and a k&n recharger kit). I think I just need plugs/wires now then I will take a weekend and do this tuneup

Seafoam is basically kerosene which you can buy for about $3.00 a gallon.

[/CompletelyOffTopic] i might have to try this seafoam stuff, my car has about 76k on it. itd prolly do a decent job of gettin rid of all the ****, that is if the gm dealers havent already done it when the chick (always) braught it in for maintenence |
i did it this past weekend, sent a nice dark cloud over my neighbor's houses/yards  , and my dad tell me it's been running well... except for him freakin running it out of gas the other day (if my fuel pump goes i will be pissed)

my friend and I just seafoamed his camaro and I took a video of it... if someone wants to host it i'll send it to you guys :P
