according to msnbc we should see a SLIGHT hike by the end of the weekend. nothing significant. gas prices should sink back down to mid $2.xx eventually. just not anytime soon.

yeah.. if the gulf would quit gettin hammered. jeez, why cant florida take the hurricanes back?

JL8Jeff 09-22-2005 07:47 AM

It's gonna go back up because of speculation the oil prices have already gone up and some of the gulf rigs have already shut down and evacuated so no production. Even if there is no damage it will cause a short term shortage again which will raise prices. There is potential for more damage in TX oil production than there was around NO. If any of the major producers in TX take a serious hit, we'll have high gas prices for a long time.

But look at the wholesale pricing. It's at 2.01 a gallon last time I checked. We should be seeing prices RIGHT NOW at about $2.20 at the pump, but aparrently it's ok to jack prices by over a buck in three days and then take your dear sweet time releasing it back down and just gouging us all the way.

ProtekYoNutz 09-22-2005 01:09 PM

its 2.89 in south jersey

What exactly do you mean by "wholesale pricing"?

maybe sams club gasoline where you need a sams club wholesale card to use it?? i dunno

Tsar 09-22-2005 03:17 PM

i dont think its the sams club thing. I think he means the rate that gas stations buy gas from oil companies. But maybe im wrong

dz 09-22-2005 04:15 PM

Back near my parents' house in PA, it's 2.67. Here in South Jersey, it's ~2.90.

Fastbird 09-22-2005 04:32 PM

I believe TSAR has got it. I keep track via Fox News and CNN and they kept reporting consistently for the past two weeks that the wholesale price of gasoline was dropping and dropping. Last I heard it was at somewhere between 1.96-2.01 just a couple of days ago.

Well, I'm not sure what that rate implies, but it sure as hell isn't the rate that gas stations pay for their gas. My dad's station has been on an informal list of the top ten most expensive station in NJ for the last 3-4 years, and they average $.10-$.12 profit on each gallon of gas that they sell.

Maybe that's the average price that refineries are getting when they sell to the oil companies?

it could also be the cost of crude (unrefined) oil... and gasoline is a far cry from crude oil. Â*so much processing has to happen before they can extract gasoline, which is why it's not just production of crude that drives the price up, but also the refineries getting their vig.

formulaMARK 09-22-2005 08:58 PM

I just filled up my tank and i was talkin to one of the gas guys and he said gas might go up to 5.00$ a gallon!
