I need someone's help... HALLOWEEN

I have a sociology experiment to do, my hypothesis is that:

If I have a "better" more extravagant costume than someone else, I will get more pieces of candy than them while trick or treating the same route of houses.

This hypthesis is NOT to allow age or gender factors. Yes I know I am far too old for trick or treating, but this is easy.

I need to go to 30 houses. And I need someone else to go ahead of me by about one house or two, with a sucky costume. hahahaa. Or two of you can go wth sucky costumes, and I'll find someone else with an awesome costume to come with me. The sucky costume group must have the same number of participants as the cool costume group. The same route, the same houses, but one of the two groups must go ahead of the other group on the same route, by about a house or two, so that the rations will most likely be biased in such a way.

(within groups, hander outers of candy tend to ration the amounts evenly among each person so as to be "fair", this is why we cannot combine the bad costume with the good in one group, they must Trick or Treat on their own terms. )
And yes, I am perfectly serious. This research is for a midterm.

Please, help a Lizzy out. It will be fun.

ANY VOLUNTEERS????????

Wow, I think this is a great experiment!! You are one smart cookie, Liz :)

If I am around on Halloween (depends on if I go out to Penn State that weekend or not) I will help you out with the sucky costume part. I will just go as myself or something.

Central jerz. Most likely in Ewing, where i live, which is right by trenton. If any of you have any good suggestions of other easily accessible neighborhoods, we can go to more than 30 houses, it just has to be at least 30. It might even have to be two different neighborhoods. I'll find out when i get my hypothesis approved on thursday.

Can I wear a costume that only old people will get?

Tru2Chevy 10-10-2005 05:55 PM

Come to my neighborhood Liz. Lots of nice old people, and way over 30 houses to get to.

alright sweet I'm glad we've got some volunteers, obviously this will be halloween night, we can work out the time to meet and everything later, and i'm sure we can get 30 houses, at least. if not, i'll make it up.

the only thing to do right now is get everyone thats in and make each group have an even number of members, and figure out who has a dumb costume, and who doesnt.

i vote one of our wears a sign that says "I'm a college student who can't afford candy and missed out on their childhood" even though that may benefit you, it doesn't matter the outcome, because at the end of my paper on this, I have to write about why it is crappy.

thanks guys, keep it coming.

Squirrel 10-11-2005 02:27 AM

don't you think it'll apply more to younger children. i mean the concept is basicaly the same, but i think the results maybe a little different. i can care less if an adult has a sool/sucky costume, but if a child has one, hell, i'll give him/her a crap load of candy.
but i know this is kinda hard to do, who wants to watch 30 kids on halloween night. i know i wouldn't

or maybe you can have kasey go twice

Ian 10-11-2005 06:07 AM

I went trick or treating last year, I might as well go this year.

Koll 10-11-2005 09:25 AM

My costume last year consisted of
Generic Mask
Trench Coat
Gas Chainsaw with chain off of it.

I would randomly go around and chase people revving the chainsaw up. The parrents of the little kids were the best to chase.

And my costume of the 2 years ago was being a "civilian"

SteveR 10-11-2005 09:42 AM

Two years ago I rented one of those giant college mascot animal costumes. I was a big beaver. I don't know how I'm gonna top that. Maybe I'll dress up like one of those toy monkeys with the cymbals and bash those ****ers all night long.

You are right about that, but it doesn't matter if my results come up weird, or even if the people's houses we go to don't like old kids coming around, because it's required that when we write the paper that we talk about why our research is NOT good. The fact that we're all too old to go trick or treating, and how that may affect results, is just another factor i have to mention in the paper about why this experiment sucks. so it's all good. So i can just write in the paper that experiment may be better done with children.

BigAls87Z28 10-11-2005 01:02 PM

Ohhhhhhhhh maaaaaaaaaan!! I wana go!!!
Good chance Ill be working all ****ing day, if not ill be at school. :(

JL8Jeff 10-11-2005 01:51 PM

My dog usually scares off most of the kids. Except the kids that live real close by and know her. I think we only had like 10 kids last year. That left me with a couple bags of candy to eat. But since it's Monday this year, I'll be going out for football to avoid the kiddies!

ProtekYoNutz 10-12-2005 09:49 AM

would have love to be in on that liz but...ill be at school but good luck!!!
