Geez, who knew changing motor mounts was so much fun!
Dam, I decided to put in new motor mounts while the exhaust was off to do the headers. It's probably in the 30's in my garage so that doesn't help. But the driver's side motor mount alone took 2-1/2 hours to get out and then drill out the rivets and bolt back together. I had no idea you needed to take the mounts apart to get the rubber mount out. I'm sure I'll be glad I did it but what a pain. I'm not sure if I feel like starting on the passenger side one tonight or not. It was 8 degrees this morning so I'm sure my garage is even colder today.

haha, what you thought it was gonna be easy? Is there anything in an ls1/lt1 engine bay that is easy to change?

Actually, removing the mount wasn't that bad since I have the steering shaft disconnected to do the headers. It was the drilling out the rivets part I wasn't prepared for and I was scrambling to find some good drill bits. And my poor drill sounds like it might not last too much longer. I've put that thing through hell.

Get a portable space heater!

grab one of those "Mr. Heater" burners that mount to a propane tank. Tim usually gets a full winter out of one propane tank. - Justin |
Im thinking about picking me up one too.

Hmm....never had that problem at Tim's. Maybe it's just the size of your garage that did it. And Jeff's garage is way bigger than Tim's garage.

dunno...i have no car in my garage nor could one fit so i rarely am in there for long periods of time...so when i do use it im usually outside...might be the placibo(sp?) effect too ya never know.

My garage is way too dangerous to have an open flame going in it! I have a portable heater but it draws more power than everything else in the house. I should just get one of those electric blankets and roll around on the floor on that.

I got one of thoes 85,000 BTU "thrusters" (looks and sounds like a jet engine). Works great. Although you start to get lightheaded after about 45 minutes

OK, got the passenger side motor mount done last night. I think it was 35 degrees in the garage but I tossed on the mechanic's suit and wrenched away. That 60 watt bulb in the drop light actually puts out some decent heat! The passenger side was much easier to drill out the rivets compared to the driver's side. And the stock motor mount was pretty distorted. But there's no way you're getting that sucker out with any kind of header or exhaust manifold in the way. So maybe I can get the headers and y-pipe done this weekend!
