Camaro Advertising

i have been going through my collection of printed f-body materials to get everything ready to be shared on the site. those who have been to my house before may have seen some of my rather large collection.
looking through old magazines and rereading reviews that are 20 or more years old i noticed something. the ads were always great, some a little cheesey, but that is more the 70's fault than GM's. lol
i also noticed how many other ads camaros and firebirds were used in. everything from appearance parts like center line wheels, to fog lamps from kc lites, to being the feature vehicle of a year long campaign by morosso in the early 80's.
this made me wonder what everyone else would like to see the ad campaign be for the big comback?
i am sure there will be an ad or two featuring cars from the previous generations, a likely return to the indy 500 would be great for the brand name, and i am sure there will be several tough guy style references to the inferior product that our traditional rival is currently selling.
anyone else got any ideas they wanna see for the new car?

400 hp under 25 grand it would SELL

turbo96z28 01-11-2006 05:17 PM

(stealing this from a friend)

rememeber the 4th gen commercial with the 2 kids guessing what cars were coming down the street from their window. well here's an updated version for the 5th gen.

2 guys in their mid 20s are in a garage with the door open working on a 1st gen Camaro. they start talking about games they used to play when they were kids and onre of them mentions the guessing game, when they could tell what car was coming down the street by the exhaust note. the other guy says something along the lines of there hasn't been any exciting cars in about x years (insert number of years it's been since 2002 for the year of the cars release). then in the distance, you hear something revving up as it comes down the street. both of the guys jump up like they saw a ghost. the slowly walk out the garage door just as the 5th gen is passing by. they turn and look at each other and one of them says "It's back." screen fades to black and a bowtie appears with CAMARO right in the middle of it. then under neath the words "The Legend Rises Again" slowly fade in.

hows that for a comeback commercial?

very true. maybe a mid-level V8 with around 325-350hp could sell at that price, but not a 400hp LS2.

Very cool idea indeed. The Braintrust over at CZ28 has created a lot of commercials. I really wish I could show you guys the "commercial" they showed us, cause it really just brought out goosebumps and smiles.
Look at the Mustang and the ads its in. Its on all the Eibach signs around my store, its on BFG ads, Tire Rack, and in other countless magazines pumping the newest product. There is a killer BFG ad that is in the back break room that features Mark Stiellow's "Mule" Silver 69 Camaro. That is bad ass looking.

I like several tag lines. The Legend Returns, the King is Back, the King Returns, All hail the King. Z28: Return of the Legend...something like that.

Cheers & Gears has had it up since Sunday night. Josh and Chris shot a vid of it. i got the same goosebumps watching it. very moving.

another idea would be something to the effect of how camaros have taken part in a persons life, it would start with say a young kid(7 years old) and his dad buying a new 69 camaro, then say a second scene where its the little boys 17th bday and he gets say a 79 z28. Then the third scene would be him getting married and leaving the church in a brand new 90 z28. Forth scene could be him buying a 4th gen z28 in say 2000 with his own son whos about 7. Now the final scene could be that son buying his own Brand new 5th gen Camaro z28 in '09/2010, and taking his dad for a ride and the dad comments somehtign to the effect "this brings back memories..." then fades out as the car drives away.

yeah i know the idea could use work but hey, it was quick lol

Yeah, Branden and I shot a vid too, and its on our site, but I wanted it of JUST the movie, nothing else. They gave us a CD-Rom, and we were hoping it would have it on there, but it didnt.

Savage_Messiah 01-11-2006 07:10 PM

hmm, liek the commercial where the LS1 T/A eats an Import at a red light?

V 01-11-2006 07:19 PM

i got it...

an orange new camaro rolls up to a light on a 4 lane wide beach road, next to a black ferrari, The camaro driver asks the ferrari driver "whats the retail on one of those?" the ferrari driver replies, "more than you can afford...(revs engine)...Ferrari". The camaro passenger, possibly bob lutz, looks to the camaro driver and says "smoke 'em" with that, the light goes green and the two cars take off, they race down the road, weaving in and out of traffic(all new stangs, challengers concept, imports etc lol) and the camaro finally wins and the screen go black and it shows "The 2010 Camaro... Fast and Furious"

hehe
(yes this IS a joke, i am NOT serious)

oh one more thing, Kasey you're a post whore. lol

Jason and Chris got it on DVD from Scott. they're gonna get it up on CZ28 sometime in the near future.

and the only site that sucks is a certain site that leaked a certain pic ;-)

turbo96z28 01-11-2006 07:31 PM

here's one i came up with last year:

no words, no type. just have a new Mustang sitting at a light, the guy behind the wheel hears the rumble of a V8 and starts looking around. 09 camaro pulls up next to him, and the camera starts getting all the important shots(wheels, Z/28 badges, hood, grill, rear). then show the light turn green and the Camaro pull away with an oh so sweet exhaust tone. flash back to the guy in the Mustang who is still staring ahead of him as the car gets further and further away. then slowly fade in the sound of horns honking from behind the Mustang and have the driver of the Stang give a quick head shake and start pulling away from the light. fade the screen to black have "Guess who's back" displayed in white letters which fade into a RED bowtie. the end

how's that?

I'm going to take a page from Jim Wangers's book (and this is for print):

You show two cars, the Mustang and new Camaro. You place them nose to nose with about an inch of space between the two of them like they're ready to pounce on each other. On top you write "How do you get a Mustang owner's attention?" At the bottom two words, "Beat him."
