Sekrat Solstice option package
Rumor has it that there is a secret option package for the Solstice called the Z0K aimed at club racers and autocrossers. It's a stripped down, bare-bones Solstice with LSD, ABS, a manual transmission, lower, stiffer suspension, and nothing else.
This package is not advertised anywhere, so you'll have to bug your dealer to look it up for you. Things like the Z0K and the1LE are the reason I can't hate GM as much as I'd like to somethimes. Mazda = officially ****ed. |
Z0K is basicly the Grand Touring package without power windows and door locks.
Ill wait for the GXP. I want boost, yes I do. I want boost, how bout you? |

i want a 4.125" stroke LS- series crank to appear in my garage...thats what i really want, hell itd be better with the whole rotating assembly... but that has nothing to do with a solstice..so... i guess that doesnt make much sense
|
i will wait and see if the Z0K can be combined with the turbo motor. hopefully it can and i will be back in the solstice game. :)
|
did you mean secret?
|
hmmmmm.......Solstice has a Z package that is just for racing.........it all makes sense now...............
you know what i mean Al???????? |
Sure do....only, I dont know if that would help the cause or not...a Z car for Pontiac...
Anyway, yes, you can combine the turbo motor and the Z0K package...its called GXP. DUR!! |
I dunno, the one with the LS2 in the new Car & Driver looks fun to drive...

Which is why every GM stability control is defeatable with a flick or a push of a switch, from the Z06 to CTS-V, to the Solstice.
|
thats nice al, and even then you are carrying it around the track with you. it also isn't clear if the systems are ever completely shut down from that little button/switch.
not having it there at all would be a nice thing to many people who want to compete. |
If it weighs more then 50lbs, Id be surpised. Id take that 50 and have the piece of mind incase something were to get crazy, that there is something to pull your ass out of a bind.

Not everyone wants tear everything out of a brand new car to make it light and go weight nazi on it like you do tim. people that wanna do that to a solstice would rather just have a rail for a dragster, and the ones who still wanna drive it on the road are not likely to be so picky about what everything in it weighs, and if they were, why the hell would they buy a solstice in the first place? |
You would buy the Solstice because its the hottest 2 seater Pontiac has made!!!...
Since 1988. :) |

it isn't about ripping anything out, it is about not having it there in the first place. my interest in the solstice is for stock class racing. that severely limits any cutting or removing of parts from the car.
50lbs is a good amount of weight to carry around a track and will effect performance. every major series and sanctioning body measures to the thousandth for general timing and most can confirn times for margain of victory to the 100-thousandth of a second. 50lbs, or even 5 lbs for that matter, is certainly enough weight to make a difference of .001 second over the course of a lap. if i was interested in more pedestrian use for the car only i wouldn't care if it was there or not. it is certainly a great safety feature for the street and everyone can certainly benefit from stability control on the road. my interest however is in racing, weight and electronic performance limits are not good for my purposes. my desire to not have stability control on teh car is no different than when you bought your Maxx. you wanted certain features and styling at a certain price point, that is all i woudl like. if i can get it in a package as cool as the solstice that is great, if not, as i stated before, i will look for something else instead. |

I dont understand the purpose of buying a brand new car to race ONLY.
Again, they do make a stripper Solstice for 20k with roll up windows and manual locks. If you are gunna make it a race car only, your best bet would be to get that, and to add an aftermarket turbo kit that Im sure will quickly follow for the 2.4 Ecotec. IMO, thats is your best bet. |
i know what GM is in business for, all i talked about was how i would like to buy the car. why is it so hard to comprehend that i want to buy the car a certain way? if you buy a new car you want the features and price you want, so what is different when i say how i want it?
the solstice will be a class killer in autocross regardless. it is far more advanced than the Z4 and Miata that have dominated the stock classes of the SCCA for years. only thing that will cause any grief in full road racing is the lack of a "factory" hard top(relates to roll cage requirements), but i am sure it won't take GM or an approved aftermarket supplier long to correct that. it is also funny to me that some say no one would ever buy a stripped down car. chrysler sold over 10,000 ACR neons(manual everything, no radio, no a/c) without ever advertising the package, on the STi(when the options were still available) the #1 request of special ordered vehicles was to not have an a/c. i am not saying this would be a sales leader for the car, but it certainly has it's market. it happens to be the car i woudl like to see and compete in. as i said before, if i can't get it the way i want, i will just shop for something else. the people who want a car to cruise around in can have it. that isn't my interest, in case you hadn't noticed. |

most stock class rules only allow for minor upgrades to the vehicle. a bolt on or two and the replacement of "common" wearable parts. nothing that is so nuts as to void a warranty. shocks, a spare set of wheels with grippy rubber, and maybe a CAI or cat-back in some classes. it is also nice to have a car with up to date technology to compete in. it makes it much easier to work on since everythign is new and since it is cutting edge more people will be doing development(there are people who buy a new car nearly every season to stay on top of these things) buying the base model and voiding the warranty with a turbo kit does not serve that purpose and would also not be allowed in the less expensive stock classes that i was looking to compete in. to add a turbo to the car would throw it directly into A-mod and out of any chance in hell of finishing anywhere near the top of the field on indexed time or in class. |
Well, dont expect the Miata Mazdaspeed NOT to offer the same things.
Like I said, you can get a stripper model, there is no question in that, and they are going after THAT market. |
i won't be shopping in the same class if the solstice isn't optioned as i would like to see it. nothing else in the class will be competing with it for a while.
the base solstice will be completely dominated by the mazdaspeed miata, the turbo solstice, and most likely the next version of the Z-car BMW comes out with(yes, there is already a rumor of them responding in kind to everyone else stepping up). adding a major power adder would put me into a class that i have no budget to even bother showing up to compete in. you knew what you were looking for when you shopped the Maxx and whatever other cars you considered, why is it so hard to believe i know what i was looking for when i checked out the solstice? |
